Your point??
It actually hasn't been 9 years since I have been there (been back a few times for varying lengths) and I know it is a different place now. Perth has also changed a lot in 9 years, some good, some bad. Swings and roundabouts mate. We are actually do a lot more research into a move back to the UK than we ever did coming out to Perth. Rose tinted glases are long gone! Point is you were referring to how much money you do/don't have in relation to prices in Perth, of course you'll know the UK is in the middle of a horrific recession hitting especially skilled middle class workers, so you could find your earnings are significantly less than expected. That also applies to Australia of course, but you as everyone else with an opinion on a place to live are looking at it through rose tinted specs, all I was suggesting is that you make a post when you've gone back to let us know how it is going, and I wish you all the best. |

Perth itself is not the issue here. I've never been over to perth, I live in Brisbane. I like it. But I couldn't care less if other people think I live in a boring place. They can think what they like. |

The whole perth debate is simply down to people confusing opinion with fact. It is your opinion that perth is boring. It is other people's opinion that Perth is not boring.

I can't wait to post on what it's like back there, will be a while yet though as OH has a few more months to finish a post grad. Although you don't believe me, I am not looking through rose tinted specs, I have a fair idea what we will be returning to. Certainly a much clearer picture than what we had coming to Perth. I have lived through a recession before and come out the other side, as I'm sure most people will this one. I know that is easy to say when we still have jobs though and no consolation to the people who have lost theirs. I do that think Perth will probably ride this recession out better than a lot of places so it's not a bad place to be at the moment. |

I did twice for a week each time. Fabulous place for a holiday but I wouldn't want to live there

Never been but can recall when Brisbane was often referred to as a over grown country town. Perth i would say wins hands down on beaches, the river here looks more impressive, from what ive been told it is far more multi cultural here a lot of the rest you may not notice too much difference....lots of Brits here but there are in Brisbane also.....Come over and take a look. |
Re: Perth- am I missing something here?
Perth IS GREAT..providing you like the lifestyle here..its not for everyone..as you can see by this thread!!
We find heaps to do both after work and on weekends..but like i said its NOT for everyone.. there are people here who will have you believe thats its boring, we have yet to find that..and after 30 plus years here......lol.. IMHO its great, lots to see and do if YOU like the lifestyle, it provides! camping, 4 wheel driving, bushwalks, weekends away, beaches, picnics, bbqs etc...:) The fact is it is not for everyone, but it must have something going for it as a lot of migrants come here ( and not just from the UK) :D  |
