Always search for jobs first.
The cheapest housing in the world will not matter if your skint and out of work.
Choosing a state depends on jobs first, then decide what sort of areas you like and why.
Some think WA is too cut off. Living in Adelaide or Brisbane would allow you to visit other states easier.

Your going to have to do a bit of research about these cities. Do you know anyone in either of these three cities? I live in Perth which is beautiful but i know nothing about the other two

Because they are the ones we have briefly looked at and liked.
Had an email in Feb saying we would get assigned a CO within 3 months x

Re: Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane
Rental is less than in other cities as well as house prices, coastal areas are very beautiful.
Traffic and jams are increasing... yes, there is crime in Adelaide such as is in other cities.
Weather can be quite cold during winter months, if you look for warmer climate, Brisbane may be better.

No Australian mainland city is immune to heat waves -if OH is adverse to working in heat maybe look at Tassie.

Re: Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane
I am from Perth, now live in Brisbane (all my kids born here 12, 9, 7) have visited Adelaide and have family and friends there. I'm not sure about employment opportunities, but for weather, opportunities for your kids and lack of isolation from the rest of the country, my choices would be:
1. Brisbane
2. Perth
3. Adelaide
1. Brisbane
2. Perth
3. Adelaide

Re: Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane
I have lived in both Adelaide and Gold Coast (close(ish) to Brisbane) and have visited Perth.
1: Brisbane
2: Perth
3: Adelaide
but base decision on jobs first....it is almost a close your eyes and stick a pin in the map job.
Don't tie yourself to one area at first, rent and get a good feel over a few years.....although moving during High School Years wouldn't be good.
Each City and it's surrounds are vast in their area and geographical diversity alone.......sea/trees, acreage/Estate, old/established etc etc....
Best Wishes,
Jan

Re: Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane
I know a couple of people who live in Adelaide but no one in Bris, i have looked at the rental prices and they seem a lot higher than those in Adelaide, also maybe not the climate in Adelaide maybe more suited to us.

We love the weather here, last year was an unusually cold one by SA standards. I personally don't like humidity so Qld was out but I have visited Brisbane, GC and SS Coast and liked them.

Re: Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane
We chose Adelaide for a few reasons but it can depend on the the job market. Construction work seems to have slowed a little here and that may mean it could be harder in SA. it's a small place to begin with.

Don't think you can go wrong in any of them. just check out the best surburbs to go to though. Regards, Steve

Re: Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane
Work-wise this site may have a bit of info about building and construction activity - http://www.acif.com.au/
As far as living in one of the cities mentioned it seems that quite a number of previous posters have made some very good points. I live in Adelaide and I'm not immune to its faults - not forgetting that the rest of the state should be considered as well. I think the cost of living is a bit cheaper here, housing seems to be more stable in terms of prices, not subject to the sort of speculation that is in Sydney and Melbourne and the prices in WA due to the mining boom. Adelaide is a reasonably easy place to live and while it suffers from the same afflictions as any other capital in Australia it still seems to be less stressed. Brisbane and SE Qld (been a while since I've been up there) sound as if they're suffering from population growth without equivalent infrastructive and services to match. Climate wise Adelaide has cool (hopefully wet!) winters but the summers are usually long and dry and of course we are subject to drought and the problems with the Murray River.
