Lived in both Adelaide and Brisbane (and Melbourne).

Adelaide is a nice place and relatively cheap but Perth and Brisbane have stronger economies.

Brisbane's a nice place too - don't get "the hole" reference???? We are now good friends with a family who lived in Adelaide for over ten years but have recently moved to Brisbane because they have teenage kids and they think their prospects are better in Brisbane.

It's true, it does get a bit humid from December to March in Brissie, but that's why you have a pool and air-con. The rest of the year is perfect. Put it this way - I'd rather be sitting in a pool in Brisbane in January than freezing my jacobs off in Melbourne in July.

I'm still curious what in particular doesn't agree with you. I realise it's all about opinions but yours seem so strong I'd just like to know a bit more.

Personally I love Brisbane. The fact we moved away from there was almost by accident  but I suspect we will be back there fairly soon. The city is lively without being too busy, there's plenty to do around the place, from museums and arty stuff, to the markets, pool and street entertainment at South Bank, plenty of live music in the Valley and beyond, no beaches in Brisbane itself but <1 hours drive to the Gold and Sunshine coasts. It's clean and the people friendly. OK it can get hot and humid in the summer but we didn't even have aircon and never felt overwhelmed by the weather. The other 9 months of the year see some beautiful weather for outdoor living, etc. Public transport is pretty good, though driving into / out of the city can be difficult at peak times.

Sure. We are all different. The things you say about Brisbane are the same kind of things about Perth. We went to Brisbane on our reccie in 2004, basically to look at it as a place to live. Did not like it from day 1. We found a few areas we like, Sanford (?) was one, we live in a similar place here, but generally thought it was a dump. Too many Rednecks and Bogans as well. Came over to Perth for a few days and loved it. So we moved here and have not looked back. End of.

Yeah dfinatley a faster pace of life in brisbane than perth. If you live in brisbane or work there its a nightmare to get in and of at rush hour. The beaches are an hour away unless you go to the lagooni n the city which gets packed. I find the people of wa 10 times friendlier than queenslanders and the weather better in perth to bris. I loved the transport in bris particuarly the cats on the river that was cool. Im not saying i dont like bris but if i had to live in queensland it would be either sunshine coast or gold coast. Everyone has there own opinions on where to live in oz noone can tell you what your fav would be. BUT BIG THUMBS UP TO WA from me!

Thanks for all your replies, It made quite interesting reading. For the folks that are already in Perth are the house prices really more expensive than Brisbane, as at the moment that is the only thing that is swaying us towards Brisbane.

Thanks

Nicky

Dont let houseprices determine where you live. In australia it will be the quality of life you will get that should swing it. But have look at www.realestate.com.au if you wanna get an idea of house prices. Yes house prices have gone up but i would rather have a 4 by 2 with pool made from brick on an half decent plot in perth than a wooden house for not much differance in price in brisbane. Have you not visited either of these places? My advice would be to have a good look round both places to see which suits i can see the arguement of both perth and brisbane but i have spent time in both. So not too biased.

Hubby is a gas fitter so would be looking for that kind of work, we have 2 kids (16 and 13)

We are looking at either Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane.

Would like to know where is the best place for work and house prices.

Would very much welcome any info.

Thanks

Nicky

They are, but the reality is that in decent suburbs I think the prices are closer, with Perth probably edging it. Ad previous posters have said, there is no point moving to an area because the houses are cheaper but you hate everything else. That's a recipe for disaster.
