Kings Park was ok. We took a trip down the coast. I thought Perth was quiet until we hit Albany :blink: Won't be going back there any time soon.

Lived in London for 5 years, then travelled around Oz starting off in Sydney, then Melbourne, they were ok, but kind of like most other big cities. Came to Perth, loved it, got everything you need without all the big city crap, weather is great, great job prospects, women are stunning, beer is cold, what more could a man want? So much so I met my now wife, have married and will be living here for a very long time. Only other place i've lived in Australia that comes close is Brisbane.

I've lived here for most of my life. The city itself is getting bigger and better and its more on par with Brisbane or a Vancouver. Restaurants are nto as good but the nightlife has improved dramatically and in a few years with the revitalisation of the city centre it will be comparable to Melbourne (which has gone very downhill in the past 10 yeas IMO)

The Job opportunities are good and to live comfortable its handy to have money in this city. More than Sydney or Melbourne I think.

Other things to note is that many of the outer areas most locals have never been to Rockingham, Mandurah or Yanchep Mindarie and they probably never will.

Overall the sun shines a lot and people to indulge in an outdoor lifestyle. Not everyone though infact most kids these days still spend most of there time at home. Living in the UK makes you appreciate the sun thats for sure.

Another thing to add with flights is that even though Perth is closer except for cheap asian flights its going to cost no different to fly internationall from Perth than it is to fly from Sydney or Melbourne.

If your a professional Perth can give you a very good career boost with the opportunites that are here.

I tried to take my kids to my favourite old haunt, East Perth Cemetery when I was there in 2008 and couldn't believe they'd closed it off to the public except on certain days and you had to pay to get in. Had to just walk them around Queens Gardens and East Perth in general as most of my old photography haunts no longer exist - i do like what they've done to East Perth though.

I guess that Perth does not attract as many tourists as other Australian destinations. After all, most people who visit Australia want to see Sydney and/or Melbourne, perhaps Ayers Rock and the great barrier reef. People don't have unlimited time to visit Australia and the flight itself between Perth and Sydney takes hours, it might discourage many people from visiting Perth, which is a shame.

Well we did have the Red Bull Air race , that apparently attracted lots of tourists but it was announced recently that we wont get it again this year.

I had to laugh when a reporter interviewing the head of the perth tourism board on tv, asked her what other events tourists could come to perth to see, there was a long pause.......then some umm errr......then looking up at the ceiling.........finally she mentioned a boat race, apparently its going past perth at some point.

How this woman is still in a job I have no idea.

RBAR has been cancelled for the rest of this year and next worldwide - I watched the last race in Germany on TV last weekend.

It's nothing to do with Perth.

Moving to Perth next month, just for a year, and after visiting there I feel a year will be enough. Although it is a lovely city, it is just too isolated for me, but it does depend on what lifestyle you are looking for.
Also travelling with Oz seems quite expensive so don't know how much of the rest of the country I will get to see.

It was on the prime time news about 6pm I think, but sorry I cannot remeber what channel it was I flip around between them a fair bit to avoid adverts :p

The person interviewed was Kate Lamont, a well-known restauranteur from a wine-making family. She is also the Chairman of Tourism Western Australia. I heard the interview and it was both funny and pathetic.

On 5 August, this website http://www.wangle.com.au/vip/perth-n...g-of-the-bulls had the following report:

"On the day the loss was announced, TWA Chair Kate Lamont struggled to name the top five events that remain on the state’s events calendar. Her 10 seconds of blankness on Seven News last Thursday sent shockwaves through the hospitality and tourism industry. It gave the industry the firm impression that there really is no contingency plan on the TWA events drawing board."

I can't find it on the Channel 7 website, but it must be out there somewhere ...
