Default Personal Documentation

One of the things that keeps going through my mind is what you need to take with you when you finally emigrate. One thing being personal documentation (ie, birth certificates and other paperwork).
What are other people planning to take with them in their handluggage and what are they just going to put into their containers for shipping??? and what wont they bother taking at all ???

Im planning on taking thing in handluggage of importance.

Other thing is scan and put on disc any inportant documents so you have back up. Take 2 copies of the disc.

That way you have back up if something gets lost and damaged.

Dont forget to copy your passport. If it ever gets lost its easier to get a new one if you know the details and passport number.

When you arrive in Australia, you will need to prove identification for a lot of financial type things.

The Australian identification system requires 100 point proof.

These 100 points are generally made up as follows

70 points
  • Passport (current or expired by less than 2 years) Not Cancelled
  • Citizenship Certificate (Australian only)
  • Birth Certificate (original or extract)
40 points
  • Written reference from another financial institute
  • Written reference from another customer, who has been with that bank for at least 12 months and has been verified as a signatory by that bank
  • Written reference from an acceptable referee - check with bank regarding “acceptable referee”
  • Drivers Licence - Renewed, Interim, Provisional, Truck or Learners
  • Other acceptable Government issued licences include Boat, Gun or Pilot
  • Public Service Employee Identification Card
  • Pension or Government Health Card (Reference No. Required)
  • Identification card issued by a tertiary education institute
25 points
  • Medicare Card
  • Overseas or International Drivers Licence
  • Proof of Age Card
  • Financial institute Credit Card, Cashcard or Passbook
  • Public Utility (Water Rate Notice, Electricity, Gas or Telephone account - no mobile accounts)
  • Statement from Landlord, Managing Agent or Owner of customer premises. Take Letter, Rental Contract or Rent Receipt with you.
So I would recommend bringing the necessary documents to make to 100 point proof.

However if you open/activate accounts within 6 weeks of arrival then they will accept just a passport.
