Default passport renewal

We have permanent residency and are planning on moving around the beginning of Feb ( just tieing up house completion). Only prob is my partners passport runs out on the 6th of feb. If we are unable to complete the move before then am i right in thinking we have to send it to Australia House to get it stamped again and does anyone know how long this might take.

You need to renew the passport, put in a covering letter stating your circumstances.

Ask them not to cancel the page with your visa sticker in it, state the page number.

He will then have to carry both passports when you go. When you get to Australia visit you local DIMIA office and ask for a new sticker to be placed in the new passport. Very unlikely the AHC will do this.

Thank you!

With permanent residence, can anyone confirm if you need 6 months on your passport to enter Australia?

Not to get into Australia, but you need confirmation in writing that any countries you pass through (eg in the Far East) won't mind.

Many Far East countries do have a "6 month rule" and even if you are only intending to transit airside and not stop over, you need to be sure the airline will allow you to board the flight with a passport that has less than 6 months remaining.

Also - check the first entry date on your visas. Did DIMIA limit that to the 6th Feb also?

Be careful. You really should have obtained a new passport long ago.
