Which part of Australia to choose?!

Castelmaine in Victoria is supposedly one of the major classic car centers of Australia.

It is a nice place, former gold mining town, much restoration has taken place recently and it is going ahead by the look and feel of it. Bendigo, nearly 100k population 15-20 minutes away as well. Just under a couple of hours from Melbourne.
Pics and info on Castlemaine the town:

Your best chance of income is clearly a big city, and Melbourne and Sydney are the biggest by far.
I don't know about Sydney, but here in Melbourne there are a LOT of classic cars, of English, Australian and American flavours. It's a fantastic site to see most Sundays when there's a large group of 1950s massive American cars out on the roads!
One of the great things about Australia is that the country is so easily accessible from the cities, 30 mins from Melbourne and you can be somewhere that feels like its out in the bush. The beaches are fantastic and so accessible from suburban Melbourne. Suburban Sydney also has great beaches.

Looking at job sites the majority seem to be in Melbourne and Sydney like you said so I think we will end up in the suburbs of one of those

Let us know if you want any info about Melbourne suburbs. I'm a member of a car club (not a classic car club... although we do have some classics in the club), I have a friend who's a member of the Triumph Spitfire club here too.

For fecks sake. I think I am finally losing patience with people.
Yes, please go where there are lots of classic cars. Make that your first priority. Don't worry about anything else.
Then, in a years time when you are living in but **** middle of job nowhere, feel free to complain that you moved there and are now unemployed and bankrupt because you are too dim to think maybe I should move where I will find a job and prioritize that first.
I think I have finally concluded that most prospective migrants are mad as ******* haters. Do people not do any research? Do they know that accountants are in such over supply in some states that people are calling for them to be taken off the lists? FFS.
You go where you can get work.

Also, why is it a bad idea to move where all the classic cars are when we ultimately want to make a business out of restoring them?
What's the attitude for? I didnt realise I had upset you!

Sorry, but, a hard day trying to help out mates that have been laid off.
As an accountant, I would expect you to be keeping a close eye on things such as the economy.
So, a discussion on where you might live based on your hobby grinds a bit at the moment. I may be wrong, but I would have thought having a job would be number one.
You are aware that there have been calls for accountants to be removed from the SOL list because of the high number of unemployed accountants in places? There are posts on a number of forums discussing this.
You are aware that the Oz economic figures are plunging? That WA, which has been regarded as being the driver of the Oz economy, is now in debate as to if it is entering recession?
So, to be discussing if the best place to live, based on your fondness for classic cars seems a bit like Nero asking which tune is better.
Sorry, but, just getting a bit frustrated recently with people emailing me about moving over, ignoring all advice, doing as they pleased, then emailing to complain about the result.

No worries, we all have crappy days.
For us it's very important to have classic cars as it's what we do with our summers here, Le Mans classic, most of the car shows in the UK. If we picked somewhere without them, I'm sure we would find other things to do but classic cars have been my other half's whole life. He bought his first when he was 13 and has owned over 30 of them since then and he is only 26.
If we can't move somewhere with them, we're not moving.

To be brutally honest if your involvement with classic cars is that strong I would wonder if you would be happy here in Aus .
Whilst there are a goodly number of car clubs around the country of all ilks there would be nothing like the scene you are used to in Europe.
The distances here would also quite possibly preclude attendance to a fair number of what shows there are given other commitments you would inevitably pick up along the way.
I have done no research into this so I'm just ruminating.

But there is a scene here. The weather is a lot kinder to classic cars, too.
Neighbour spotted in a beautiful MG the other day - not the popular one, the 'classier' one.

If Melbourne or Sydney were the intended destination I would have far fewer reservations as the main branch of most specialist car clubs is in one or the other , it is in other locations that my doubts lie , particularly if there was an intent to start a business with the specialist /vintage car owner as the intended prime client base.

Hmm possibly will need a bit more looking in to then. Or perhaps a move to somewhere in europe would be better suited. That will take some time to investivate! So many countries to look at and so little spare time lol
