Default Parking a camper van overnight 4 free in Brisbane / Sunshine Coast??

Hello

We are thinking of getting a camper van and would like to know where we can park it for free overnight? Generally what places can we park for free. (somewhere legal).

All help appreciated

Hi!

We took a campervan up the East Coast, including Brisbane & the Sunshine Coast. We did freecamp on occasion in carparks near the beach but I think it is illegal, although we were never questioned, despite being woken a couple of times by police patrol car headlights!!!

You can camp for about $20 on proper camp sites, but for about $5 you can camp in national parks. We found these sites were often the most beautiful and in the loveliest of places. They all have toilets and only a very few don't have showers. We spent most nights on these, staying on proper sites when we wanted to recharge the van batteries and do our laundry.

Can I reccommend "the wilderness campground" at Rainbow Beach, Sunshine coast? Good spot if you're heading to Fraser Island and not far from a lovely beach. Can't remember the shower situation but they have them on the beach anyhow, just a lovely spot and only $5! Oh, and check out the sunset from Carlo Sandblow (think that's the right name). Loads of gorgeous places to visit there - you'll have just the most wonderful time!

Anyhow, have a fantastic time!

Jo

Any of the roadside rest areas on the Bruce Highway will do. They are always chocka with caravans etc. Otherwise it will have to be the service centres - lots of truckers and caravans stop overnight.

Hiya

Is it legal to sleep in your camper van on the roadside rest areas on the Bruce Highway?

Thanks

Always seem to be heaps of campers and trucks parked up overnight. On the other hand, I'd probable press on until I found one with all the facilities available. They are pretty frequent and road signs give the number of k's to the next one.

There are lots of rest area/picnic areas where you are permitted to spend 24 hours before having to move on - there are a number of these around. There is one just near the Lansborough/caloundra turn off near the Bruce Highway (known as the Rustic Cabin I think) - there is a restaurant/cafe there - surprisingly called the Rustic Cabin - apparantly do good cream teas. There are toilets in the rest area. There is also a rest area on the Nambour connection Road, Woombye - not sure what its reputation is though??!! Just past the Big Pineapple about another 1-2 kms on the left hand side. I am not sure where there are any more - maybe you could find out from the various councils or information bureaus.

Hi we have two books from the RAC that has all the free campsites in North and South areas of WA, undoubtedly they would do them for QLD. Very good as they give all the facilities at each. Maybe go onto their website. Suzette at Cedar Cottage

On one of the other threads (Has anyone done the big trip around Au?" ) someone mentioned that there is a book called something like Campsites and Reststops around Australia -it sounds perfect for what you want??
