Default parent visas

hi ,
does anyone know how long it would take my parents to get a visa once i have pr in aus.

my parents have 3 kids and when i get there they will have 2 /3 of their kids with pr visas. i think that entitles them for a parent visa, but how long would i have to have been there? and how long does their visa take?

Cheers,

Brendan.

If your parents are eligible then getting the visa takes about 6 months.
This is for the contributory parent visa. The usual parent visa takes many years.

You can sponsor once you are settled in Australia on PR ( it may be that you have to live there 2 years first ,I'm not sure)) however you would need at least 2 years tax returns to act as assurer. I assume your Brother/sister is sponsoring you so I am not sure if they could also sponsor your parents.

The process is pretty easy if the criteria are met.

Good luck

This has cropped up before and I can't remember the answer. I don't think it is as easy as it sounds.
They can stay with you for periods of time but again I am not sure of the rules.

The contributory visa is really the only way to go. It costs a bit. The details are on the DIMIA website:

www.immi.gov.au

Good luck

Multiple sponsorships are ok (in most circumstances) but multiple assurances have a non-negotiable limit of two adults at any one time.

If his brother has acted as assurer for him then he can't assure the parents until the assurance period has expired.

Generally - no.

The offshore Contributory Parent visa is the appropriate one for when they qualify.

You should get some professional advice on temporary visa options if they want to get to Australia meanwhile, eg the retirement visa.

Note that the temporary Contributory Parent visa doesn't require an Assurance of Support => this visa can be an intermediate step in the pathway to permanent residence (though the need for children to be "settled" still applies).

Best regards.

What Alan says is correct however this visa requires very careful planning as there is a tight deadline to apply for the permanent visa, for which an Assurance of Support *is* required. If you miss this deadline, you're in a complete mess.

A total mess also awaits temporary contributory parent visa holders if something happens with the sponsor or assurer in the two year period (insufficient income to qualify for the assurance, family feud, death etc).

My view is that it generally makes more sense to remain settled in the UK until the permanent visa is granted, then move to Australia.
