Question Parent Visa

Hi There,

Does anyone know what the limit is for sponsoring under the Parent Visa ie I take it as a single child you are allowed to sponsor both parents, but what happens if both your parents have remarried for example, are you then allowed to sponsor 4 people?? ie both mother and father and step parents??

There is no restriction on multiple sponsorship of parents in this situation provided that:

- you can demonstrate that you can meet multiple sponsorship obligations; and
- the balance of family test is met (note - spouse's children are also counted, so parents who have remarried might fail for this reason); and
- (a big if) you can sort out the Assurance of Support (AOS) issue. Contributory Parent requires a 10 year AOS and you *cannot* have an AOS over more than 2 adults at one time. Someone else can do the AOS, but generally only someone who is close family would sign up to this obligation.

If you're doing the assurance of support (and no-one else is available), you should make that 10 years. The Contributory Parent AOS term is much longer than normal.
