BRISBANE'S rising house prices have contributed to the biggest quarterly jump in Australia in 14 years, defying concerns of a market downturn.
House prices increased 6 per cent in the three months to December 2003 – the biggest national quarterly increase since the March quarter in 1989 and almost double September's rate.
According to Australian Bureau of Statistics figures, Brisbane's prices were up 12 per cent for the quarter and 35 per cent over the year, beating all other cities in the country.
Sydney recorded a 5.3 per cent jump for the quarter and 15.5 per cent over the year, and Melbourne prices were up 3.8 per cent and 12.5 per cent for the same periods.

Seems to be the same story that HUP posted but different paper.

The quarter results to March 2004 will be the interesting ones.
I have been following property averages in two main areas, NSW Post code 2759 and QLD Post Code 4165
And during the last 6 months to Jan 31st 2004,
2759 has increased by 10%
and 4165 has gone up by 23%
Things have slowed, and only time will really tell what happens next.

That 5% is before tax and if you are on the top rate tax band (approx $60,000) with your earned income, your investment income will be clobered at 49% so your 5% interest works out at 2.5%, just about keeping up with inflation generally.
House inflation is still running in double digets in most areas.

You dont like my opinions, so what!, you got pissed off the other day when I explained to you that on the first wednesday of each month the dollar has some wild gains and falls according to currency speculators betting on the dollars reaction to interest rate rises. The dollar/pound is now just about where it was.
Now what are you pissed about, that after living here 10 years I enter a discussion on property prices. So you feel from mid Wales you are more experienced on Bris Property than me, so be it you stick your money where your mouth is and I'll do the same.
My opinion that Bris property will go up at a steady rate is based on my companies research into population growth. Hardly a secret tho is it, I'd say most people living here know SEQld is the fastest growing area in OZ, and predicted to be the boom state over the next 3 years.
Why do I say property went up between 30% 80% a year the last 3 years in SEQ, simply because it did. We own property here thats what happened. As I said nobody expects those % to continue, but I think steady gains will.
Even when we leave OZ later this year, we are keeping some stuff in SE Qld, because some stuff is worth keeping, and after 10 years here I reckon I might know what that is.
I dont come on here shouting the odds about property in Mid wales, but if someone is running a thread on SEQld yes I do feel entitled to chuck my 2 bobs worth in. You dont have to like it, but someone else might.
If my experience of living in OZ annoys you then put me on Ignore.
By the way if you think the housing market is going to crash here why on earth as a plumber are you coming to OZ
