Yeah... not so good - he failed the pre-op appointment. Apparently his corneas are too thin, so advice to anyone going is to try and get a pre-op appointment locally. It is really rare... However, I'm glad he's gone with my brother as they can now have a good knees up & he's not feeling glum on his own in Istanbul! They're good mates, so it will be good for them to do their tree hugging stuff before we go to Aus. The hospital recommended another treatment, but he felt uncertain about going for it & would rather do the research etc. plus you need to be there for 5 days. I really don't know much more as he phoned me on an internet phone & I found it hard to make out what he was on about!

You give good advice. My wife got checked out by the NZ South Island LASIK specialist Fendalton from Christchurch (they came to Dunedin). She was OK but they said it was quite common to be 'rejected'.
Also, Fendalton gave some quite interesting research stats, about 8-10% of LASIK patients treated have a subsequent problem that needs to be put right again afterwards, so it's worth bearing that in mind if you are travelling to get the op.

lol probably! My SIL (best mate, isn't this all cosy) is coming down tonight for the weekend & there may be some short break planning for ourselves.. don't see why they should get to have all the fun!
Seriously, just glad Blim isn't on his own. At least they can enjoy Istanbul and he can now afford a bigger prezzie for moi!

What a shame. That happened to my friend and he had the second method i think it was called wavefront and he is really happy with it.
Oh well at least he can see the sights now!!

Funnily enough, my mum wants to go to Istanbul with us, before we go to Aus in September... so we may all go over together for a short break. We're going to look into the whole procedure thing.
Do you know what wavefront entails?

Comments from people who have had it done. Lots of useful info.
Wavefront is just another form of Lasik - it's all in the accuracy of how they measure the curvature of cornea and shape it with the laser. Centre for Sight (London and East Grinstead) are currently researching the relative advantages,if any. It's more expensive.
The other method they might have meant is the older one, PRK. All explained on the lasik-eyes site.
