Opportunities Australia expo - Manchester in Nov
Has anyone been to any of these expos before and are they worth going to? OH and I are trying to decide whether it is going to be worth travelling down from Scotland to go to this as there are supposed to be a plethora of employers there. I was just wondering whether anyone has actually been to them before and if so whether there was any luck that came out of it with regards to possible job offers/ networking opportunities. Any feedback greatly appreciated.

We went to an Expo in Birmingham (can't remember who ran it) and TBH, thought it was a bit of a waste of time (and money) There were presentations about different visas, how to apply, eligibility etc Then about a dozen different stands ranging from a couple of banks, to shipping companies, a couple of agencies and IIRC there was a lot of emphasis on nursing and mining so WA was quite well represented. We were there for about 2 hours (had planned for a day)
I think, if there is a list of specific employers who are confirmed as being there then certainly it may be worth it if only to do some networking etc

We went to one in Leeds, great! If you have skills and an education, WA will be after you. Use it to see what skills they are after, don't sign anything that gives your money to an agent without first deciding whether you can do it yourself.
Worth looking to at least see if you are eligable, then it is up to you. There will likely be new Zealand and canada doing the same at the same time, the ticket is for two days, use both of them, check out the stands on day one, discount the ones that are of no interest yet (banking, removals, pension transfers and so on) and return on day two with your questions to the ones that interest you.
Look at the other threads on here regarding cost of iving, cost involved in moving, selling up, transport to Oz, good luck.

The chances of finding a job are limited outside the medical profession.
Other than that there are just some stands on removals, moving pets, banks etc. Nothing I needed to get off the sofa to find out about.
Each state had a stand but the queues were very long. We spend less than 30 minutes there.

The expos are great for people who don't know how to use Google.

Nice day out to dream and fill your head full of potential.....
However, I firmly believe it's just a money making exercise for many companies and the actual opportunities are limited....
Yes go and get as much info as possible...
No dont agree to anything or engage anyone's services as you'll be £5k out of pocket before you know it chasing a dream that'll take 4 years and you'll be so disheartened it'll drive you mad....
(spoken from direct experience but not necessarily an indication of everyone's)
still trying though!

Re: Opportunities Australia expo - Manchester in Nov
I wasted a friday night in London a couple of years ago to attend the Expo at the Excel on the Saturday morning. It was only good for information, as each of the states did presentations on why you should go there. As we had not made up our mind where to go, it actually helped us (but not sure it was worth wasting a friday night).
However the expos are NOT there to help you get a job, they are not full of employers bending over backwards trying to give you work. It is very misleading for the expos to ask people to attend on the possibility of finding a job.
The expos are good for information but NOT good for finding employment. Save yourself the dosh, use the internet and find yourself a good visa agent (eg. "Thinking Australia").
