Opening an Australian Bank Account from UK
A couple of people have mentioned that they were able to open their Australian bank accounts over the internet before they actually emigrated. Which banks did you use and was it difficult?
Thanks

Another big plus with them is that if you leave money in your UK account it does not cost you anything to take it out abroad.

We opened a migrant banking account with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
You can download a form online or call their London branch.
Commonwealth Bank of Australia
Senator House, 85, Queen Victoria St, London, EC4V 4HA
Tel: 020 7710 3999
The application is done in about a week and your given a sort code and account number.
I think if you send over less than £30,000 there is a small fee but its waived if you send a higher amount.
You have to validate it at the other end where you will recieve your cards, to take out money.
You can download a form online or call their London branch.

We did this before our move, got a mortgage and credit card with CBA no probs. We did send a fair bit of money through, profit on house, savings ect, which was good because the bank manager, who we met when we first got here was referee for our first rental house so we didn't need any proof of work ect (not that we had a job).
