oooh balls, I don't know what to do. Student Visas.
We've applied for student visas. We've passed the medicals, paid our fees and done everything else except manage to get the visa to say we can go.
We've had a fab offer on the house and the new people want in on 10th July so the Solicitor is trying to get things moving but I keep saying can you delay/wait/be slow as I am expecting the yes any day.
The medicals were however, sent to London in error as they should have gone to Oz. Australia House will forward them on when they get to them in their pile of stuff to do and then it will take processing time in Australia before we get that yes.
We've been told there is no reason why the student visa should be turned down. We've been told that student visas as only rarely rejected so my head says just let the Solicitor get on and start to make our plans but my heart is saying we'd lose so much if the sale went through and something went wrong with the visa.
Buggery, I am in a pickle and upset. Don't know what to do. I hoped for the yes by now.

Not much help, but student visas are normally pretty quickly approved from when they were first lodged. I think 6-8 weeks is about the norm but some granted even quicker. Maybe chase up DIAC to see if you can get a timeframe when yours will be dealt with

The only bit I would delay would be the signing of the contracts, everything else I would have ready and waiting to go.
Our student visa took 2 weeks, one week after the medical (which we did pay to send electronically rather than a hard copy) even though it said it was being sent to Sydney to be reviewed. I e-mailed them to ask about it, as I was worried and whoever it was that looked into it told me in their return e-mail that the visa had been granted. I don't know if my e-mail speeded things up or not??
Personally, even if we had not got the visa we would still have left the house, so that wouldn't have mattered.
It will be through before you know it.

We were in exactly same situation before we came out, we had to go ahead with the sale in the end up. It was first time buyers who bought our flat and they were happy to have the entry date confirmed when we got our visas in. Our visas took 8 weeks to come through, the doctor didn't tick the box to 'ok' the x-rays so had to wait whilst the paperwork sat in someones in tray. . total nightmare at the time!! At the time, our agent had said that the only reason that a student visa would be refused would be if something really seriour came up in the medicals. We just went ahead with everything apart from booking flights. . .we kinda thought that if something did come up in the medicals, then the whole visa thing would be the least of our worries!!
Good luck, hope it all woks out soon for you!!
Cheers

Never heard of any problems with online student visas, maybe 2 weeks maximum?

Still no visa but the medicals were loaded on yesterday after I had a melt down (in a nice way) with a chap at Australia House in London. They were still sitting in a "to be sent to Sydney pile". I just couldn't contain my tears and blubbed. I felt very embarrased but I tried to explain about the house and he was lovely. Said he'd phone back when he found them which he did and said they were being loaded on.
Checked the immi website today and sure enough they are there and our application is being processed further. Surely it has to be Monday for the visas to come through. Fingers crossed.
