If you do not have your current UK address on the licence it is not valid. So, if you sold your house and have no UK property, your licence is not correct in its details and you should not use it to drive.

Not true. A GB license does not cease to be valid the moment that the holder moves outside Great Britain. Nothing on the DVLA site suggests otherwise, but perhaps if you know more, provide a reference?

Lots of temporary residents in Australia use their valid overseas licenses.

If the details on the licence are not correct then it is not valid. Thus if it does not show the correct address - ie you do not live at the address specified on the licence then it is not valid. If you have a run-in with the law, they need your details. If you have the old address on your licence, then you are giving false information to the police, and they take a very dim view of that.

But there is no requirement to advise the DVLA of a change of address if you move aboard. There is also absolutely no facility to change your licence address to an overseas address.

If you’re moving abroad, you can’t register your new address on your British driving licence. Contact the driving licence authority in your new country of residence.
Changing your driving licence address

When I came here on a 457, there was absolutely no requirement for me to get an Australian driving licence. I had no property in the UK, thus no resident address there. As I'd moved abroad, I was unable to change my UK driving licence address. So, are you suggesting that I was driving here in Australia illegally?

(edited to add: when I was sub-postmistress, a driving licence could not be used as proof of address, only proof of identity because there was no way to check if the address was still relevant...)

A 457 visa holder, and all temp visa visa holders, can drive indefinitely on a valid overseas licence in Australia.

The six months is only for PR visa holders.

Doesn't it also still vary from State to State?

Western Australia used to be the odd one out for temp visa holders, with a period of only twelve months, but this was changed to indefinite, to be in line with the other States.

Unless of course it has changed again

Only if you inform the police that the wrong address on the license is your present address.

If you give the 'wallopers' your correct current address, and explain that you haven't updated the details on your license, then just what "offense" have you committed ???
