Anyway there is myself, hubby and 2 children boy-10 and girl-4. Once we have our visa we hope to live within 30-40 mins of Brisbane CBD! Have researched Redcliffe, Northlakes, Coomera, Upper Coomera but will make no decisions untill we are out there and have had a chance to look properly.

We sent our app in Jan so are just playing the waiting game. We def plan to be over by next Jan but not 100% sure of when yet.

At this rate we'll all be arriving within weeks of one another.

Me, OH and 2 children (girl 8, girl 5 and boy 3) are hoping to be out there by September - Visa permitting. We are January applicants so it is a BIG fingers crossed!!

We had originally intended to visit both the Gold and Sunshine Coast and then make a decision (we've friends on the Gold Coast) but I think realistically it's going to have to be closer to Brissie for my oh's work. an, I know it's sad but there's an Ikea in Logan so I don't want to be too far away...... It's and addication honest!

cheers,

Shelley

Hey Shelley,

Your on the jan thread to eh! Once the waiting game finally ends it will be lock your doors Queensland as here we come

We plan to just book accomodation nearer the time and check out suburbs we'll go from there. Bearing in mind we have children we want to do as much via internet as possible, i.e have ruled out a couple of areas for one reason or another but who knows we may feel differently once we get there

We have been to Brisbane but were not really looking at where to live at the time and it was 4 years ago. Really hoping somewhere stands out for us when we get there. We've booked a total of 5 weeks accommodation with the hope that will be long enough for us to decide on a good place for a longer term rental.
Will look forward to hearing all about your search for an area as you'll defo be there before us

We've just arrived in Brisbane and are staying in Wynnum for the moment.

Today we drove round most of the popular Bayside suburbs and we are feeling a little underwhelmed.

We went round Birkdale (which I thought was quite nice), wellington point, Ormiston, Cleveland, Victoria Point, and Redland bay the only places that had reasonable priced rentals and seemed nice weregenerally quite far from the shopping/cafes etc and there were hardly any available rentals anyway.

For me Birkdale seemed to be best as it was close to lots of schools, good shops and seemed to be a safe area.

All in all as I say we didn't get a 'wow' factor from Bayside, possibly we were expecting maybe something a bit more than normal suburbia but I don't know what. ( wife reckons lots of things in walking distance which are scenic and cafe culture type stuff where we could go with the kids and be outside lots without having to drive everywhere (if that makes sense)

We are off to check out the northern subs in the next few days before widening things out to GC and SC.

This is meant to no offence to anyone that lives in Bayside because ours was a very condensed trip and we will probably have missed lots so please tell us what/where we're missing if so.

Cheers

Is there anyone heading elsewhere in Queensland or are you all heading for the SE?

It is mighty big over here and plenty to see just wandering what makes people move to this area, is it jobs? or family? or just because it will be a good place to start?

Myself and OH have already received visas last October. House went up for sale last Monday and we had our first viewing on sunday, we received a phone call yesterday asking for a second viewing so fingers crossed we could be on our way soon (we can't leave until July though so I don't know where we will live until then????) we are heading to Buderim - sunshine coast initially as we have family over there and fell in love with the whole area when we visited.

Hi there, we (Myself, OH and son aged 8) are heading this way at some point in the not too distant future, even sooner if the bl+%dy house sale ever goes through. We will also be looking at the same areas and probably a lot more besides. Good luck with your application. P
