Default Office dress code

Over the past umpteen years, wherever I have worked, be it a small company or an international one, the dress code has been casual but smart. But in the recent years, even jeans have been okay as long as you were presentable and clean.

Now I don't own any suits. Does anyone know what the dress code for office workers is in Oz? Do women wear skirts/trousers and jackets or smart casual goes? Otherwise I might need to nip down to M & S and get a couple of suits. Drat!

Thanks

Personally I think the ladies dress very smart in the Sydney CBD... And it seems the majority of blokes are wearing suits... Reckon M&S is in for a hit...!

In the office I work in - large, prestigious mining project - anything goes. Shorts, t-shirts, trainers, suits. They don't give a shit.

It's better this way.

I wear jeans to the office. Not so much because they don't give a shit, more that I don't.

I don't wear a suit but dress smart. Trousers and blouse or skirt and blouse - Friday is Mufti day - so i wear casual then. Some do wear suits but I think you would be ok with some seperates

In Brisbane the dress code for women is really cheap nylon clothes from Kmart

When I worked in Melbourne 99/2000, the men in the offices had more highlights in their hair then the women. Fact.

As anyone will tell you, I am a (male) banker ... in our office it is 'smart casual' for everyone apart from Fridays ... really no-one cares though. I only wear a tie if it's cold and I need to keep the heat in ...

An exception being tomorrow where the dress code for me is jeans and a Queensland State Of Origin t-shirt because I'm off to the game

I reckon if there was ever a hair product shortage then Australian Men's Sport would be the first to suffer.

Unfortunately true!! I would add that if you take a walk through the city center mid-week you'll also see a lot of men in badly fitting cheap suits

The company I work for is casual. Some people wear jeans, most are a bit smarter.

If I'm meeting clients or stakeholders, a suit. If I'm sitting behind my PC all day, smart casual. No jeans, trainers, thongs, shorts, t-shirts etc.

In OH's office, the women have to wear tights or stockings which I think is a bit harsh in an Australian summer.

Do you not have a factory/designer outlet near to you. You can get some bargains on suits, shirts, ties etc.

Just about mostplaces you can get away with machine washable trousers and a shirt. Even when others choose to wear a tie.

It's no so bad.
