Thanks for that suggestion Jane but we've now got fixed up with a house in Atwell for the first couple of weeks, unfortunately that only gives us those 2 weeks to decide which suburb we fancy and finding a rental there, so come on everyone which burb do you live in and whats it like, honesty very much appreciated and will be rewarded with beers.

Hi
We are off to Perth to have a gander on 28/12/03 & validate our visas - we like the sound of the place - despite it being the arse end of the world!!! Although it is the remotest city on earth - coming from the overcrowded UK - maybe it is not a bad thing!!!
Hubbie is a aircon project manager or building services project manager - so will be looking to see what the job situation is like - has anyone out there who is doing the same found any useful agencies that we can drop in to see.
We will see !!!

Hi all apologies before we arrive at the arse end of the world (which I always thought was N.W.England with Warrington being the boil on the arse end of the world). But the shaved head must stay after five kids of my own and about thirty fostered there is not much of my own left
as for the football shirts well Ihave just said goodbye to the excess baggage charge cheers folks
Poms in Perth social club is not such a bad idea if it gets some of us together to put names to faces not sure about the union jack badge though as wife and kids are Aussies and I am Irish albeit with scouse accents
Looking forward to arriving 8 nov 03 staying in lovely place in Mandurah for 2 weeks until we get something more permanent

If you are arriving close to a weekend grab a copy of the West and just go to the home opens, it won't take you long to find somewhere.
At the moment there are too many properties to rent so you are sure to pick up a bargin, and you'll be able to haggle and knock the price down.
We're living in Hillarys and it's a great suburb, 10 mins to the beach (walking), 20 mins to the city centre. Infact we are moving out of our rental end of October, so if you are arriving then, then that's one property available!

If so, what are your plans? Fingers crossed still, hoping for next Crimbo.
Why did you choose Perth? Mates and cousin there - also seems best for us.
Who are you off with? Hubby, daughter (6), son (10 months).
Shoe size? 51/2
Favourite pudding?? anything going

As I said on my "virgin" posting last week, Jill and I are hoping to get to Perth. We started the application process in the summer, skills assessment completed and returned ok by end of June 03 and the Main application (Skilled Australian sponsored 138) was sent in and received at the end of July. We are now in the waiting phase although its good to keep track of when everyone gets to their own next stage.
We haven't travelled round Oz as I have loads of family in Landsdale, Morely and up the coast in Geraldton (running a 2000 acre sheep/pig farm). We intend to have a 6 week explore/tour on arrival (is this a good idea - answers please ???) to see if we are limiting ourselves however the idea of family being around you for the first few months will be a big reassurance for Jill especially.
I am an Operations Director for a food company and my Jill is a Food Technologist/Development Manager. When we went over in April I saw that things might be limited for us in a our current professions but as part of the big adventure and lifestyle change we will have the chance to do something different - or so we hope ?
We thought Perth was a beautiful city, loved the people, the food, the beaches and the laid back attitude to life where friends and family come first !!
Anyway enough rambling for now. I'd love to keep in touch with developments for anyone else hopeing to get to Perth and on a similar timeline to ourselves or who has experience of applying on a similar sub-class ?
Good luck to all those about to depart......

)
Do people really want to be driven around in that car, and no not being snobby at all, just thought I was moving to Australia not an imitation of Britain!!!

We have a 1/2 acre block and love the space around us, especially after living in crowded Britain.
We've spent time on the East Coast, Sydney up to Cairns, we came to Perth and decided that's where we wanted to settle. It's surprising how many Brits are here! Although where we live there are lots of 'established' Brits, been here 20 - 30 years, they still sound like they've got off the plane yesterday!!

Not wishing to offend anyone, but it was full of 'big fat northerners' wandering around with football shirts and shaved heads, driving souped up Holdens and Ford Falcons.
Very depressing!

Oh dear my hubby has a zuped up Ford Falcon (not by choice) - I think it's so naff that we got him some fluffy dice for fathers day! Maybe it'll be a "LEE N DI" sun visor next!!
PB said when we moved to "classy clarkson" that we may even have aussies for neighbours in a toungue in that cheek sort of way he had, well apart from the Italians next door I think the whole street is aussie and I think Elliot is the only English kid in his year.
God save the Queen n' all that, Oh floor o scotland too..

Hmm... would hate to arrive in Costa del Perth!
We found furnished accomodation with no problem at reasonable rents.
