Default NZ Air Fares

have to visit NZ during the next couple of months or so.
I am amazed at the variation in the price of air fares. Some can be DOUBLE that of others. Not only that, there are huge variations within the same airline according to dates of travel.
The one drawback to checking out/or booking online is that you have to stipulate both outward and return dates, which means youy may not be taking advantage of the best offers.
Are there good periods of the year during which to travel for lower fares? Or benefit from a minimum stay, for example. Perhaps one day of the week is slack for airlines. Anybody "in the know" about this? It seems I could save hundreds on my fare.

Take a look at http://www.kangarooclub.co.uk/ and drill down to Standard Return Fares for the city of your choice to see the cheaper periods...

This is standard airline practice to charge more during the most popular times. Its winter over here at the moment so flights from the UK are pretty cheap. My father in law has just booked some flights with Singapore Airlines who are offering return fares of 595 pounds for travel before the end of the year. They are a great airline and you'll struggle to get much cheaper than this.

Got a price today from Trailfinders, flying to NZ via LA with BA (say that quickly!!)
for £605.

Twice the luggage allowance via LA isn't it?
