i work for ramsey health in perth at Hollywood clinic, i qualified in the Uk and was offered a new grad post but due to lack of house sale had to wait a little time. We finally came out April last year. Believe me it has not been as easy as you would think. I am paid as a level 1.3 and I net around $2k a month but I do a sunday and a late shift every week. We live in Doubleview we pay $960 a fortnight we like it and our neighbours are friendly and shopping is ok it takes me 15min to drive to work every morn which is cool. Avril |
Re: Nursing in Australia
Hi, I am a fellow nurse, and was going to do the same as you when I qualified however I met my partner and settled. We have now split up and so I am finally doing what I have wanted to do for years.
What I m trying to say is, Im glad I didnt go straight from qualifying as now I have over 4 years experience which I am glad about. Nursing is scary when you first step on the ward as a trained nurse and to do that in a different country with different procedures etc would be terrifying. The practical experience you get from being a student is so valuble for when you qualify but confidence only comes with experience. I would suggest at least 1 years experience, plus it will give you time to save up! Hope this helps xx |

Re: Nursing in Australia
Well I'll stick my neck out and name some places :)
A lot of old school Perth people rave about the Western corridor which is from fremantle up to about North Beach and then inland till you hit the freeway. This includes suburbs like Claremont, Cottesloe, City Beach, Wembley Downs, Floreat, North Beach most of those are a few minutes from the beach so not at all cheap but great places. If you cant afford those areas then just keep working inland until you hit the freeway. If you prefer nearer the City then the suburbs of Mount Lawley, East Perth, South Perth, COMO, Nedlands, Shenton Park, Leederville, Subiaco all good areas for different reasons. Theres also an unwritten rivalry or preference for North or South of the river (Swan River). I havent figured it out yet but All my friends live North. These are nice suburbs Ive been here 5 years and these are the ones I like the best as mentioned in previus post totally depends on your budget and mst of these areas are not cheap and in some cases will seem eye atering to someone earning pounds, but it might help. Use www.reiwa.com.au or www.realestate.com.au as a good starting point. Hope that helps and good luck. Emma |
