thank you for the info..I have 1 son and no idea where want to be why I left it open..it is subjective but generally places have known crime rough areas that in general most people do not want to be in...crime stats never reflect the truth and in general each city have one or two rough areas, once I knbow them I am pretty much easy about the rest as will rent until I finally decide..I will look at your friends posts too...but the same applies for Geraldton..where are the rough areas to avoid..local people know these and I will look everwhere else..renting then will look for permanence before I apply...schooling is not in the equastion..Jacqui

Not sure we have any posters in geraldton at present, I only remember Jaydee though I think Gems might be out that way. It would be VERY different from Perth life though.

Have a browse for (the many) threads about Perth suburbs, that'll give you more of an idea - I can't help, other side of the country I'm afraid.

I would strongly suggest you get some experience at home first, find yer feet, become a 'real nurse' first, then give aus a try, have 21 years experience including time in OZ,finding somewhere 'safe' to live first should be down yer list of priorties:thumbup:

I don't think she uses BE anymore since she went home, so she may not reply, but her posts are worth reading :)

Personally i would recommend Perth initially... Its the most isolated city in the world and can take a bit of getting used to... Geraldton is out whoop whoop and takes even MORE getting used to..

I would go public if you can, rather than private... Terms and conditions are better...

And if you are working shiftwork, even as an RN 1.9 you'll be earning reasonable money... Remember you get penalties for nights, lates and weekends, these soon make quite a difference to your basic pay

As you can see from the posts you've already received regarding locations most people are non committal. The main reason for this is that while it would be ideal if everyone could afford to live in the best suburb the reality is not everyone has the funds for a million dollar home. They live in poorer less desirable suburbs that are more in line with their wage.
Asking where are good areas and receiving replies stating that X,Y & Z are crap areas serves only to cause offence to the folks that live in those areas.
A search of these forums will see that while some are extremely happy in one place others will bag that same area.

thank you for replying...can you share any more of your experience? When you say heading home is that Aus or UK?

Jacqui

Hi Jacqui,
Home is Brisbane but I came here (UK) for a holiday in 98 and have stayed. I have been back to check on my young adults sometimes up to 3 times a year. I feel it is time to go back and stay as most of my holidays tend to be Malaysia or Brisbane now. I am lucky to have the option to jsut go home without visa's.

I will be chasing up my nursing qualifications (registration) when I return to Brisbane next week as I have a month there.

I am thinking of joining a nursing agency when I return full time as I have made some really great friends in Malaysia and want to spend 3 months there , 3 months back in Brisbane topping up my bank account.

What's a rough area to you may not be to someone else. What are you measuring 'roughness' on? Everyone measures a place on where they've been previously and what they expect, therefore everyone's opinion on a good or bad area is individual. Just because a random unknown someone on here may tell you xxx is a crap neighbourhood and you should avoid it doesn't mean that you would find it a crap place.

Good luck.

Has anyone any idea what shifts are generally worked in Perth? and do the private pay current rates as per WA Gov health authority?
Thanks

Hi

i work for ramsey health in perth at Hollywood clinic, i qualified in the Uk and was offered a new grad post but due to lack of house sale had to wait a little time. We finally came out April last year. Believe me it has not been as easy as you would think. I am paid as a level 1.3 and I net around $2k a month but I do a sunday and a late shift every week.

We live in Doubleview we pay $960 a fortnight we like it and our neighbours are friendly and shopping is ok it takes me 15min to drive to work every morn which is cool.
