Nurse wages in Oz
I am aware that wages vary state to state. What in various states would a nurse expect to take home after shift enhancements and tax etc....
Would a mental health nurse be mainly level 1 or 2?

Hi there,
If you look on www.anf.org.au you can find the the salaries for each state for private and public.
In WA salaries are $49000 basic in public hospitals plus enhancements, can also calculate the tax on their Aussie site, but can't remember the addie...sorry.
I am a mental health nurse and have been told by most hospitals that I will be a level 1 and then an increment depending on experience.
Hope this helps.

Did you send CV to hospitals or apply via Agency. Curious as I am waiting for PR visa, but have not applied anywhere as thought I would do some agency work for a while. What do you think is best. I am RSCN. (Also RGN) but working in paeds since 1990 so couldnt do adults again anyway as been out of it so long. Does your salary take into account your previous experience and salary here in UK

I am being sponsored by hunter health in NSW, I applied for the job through the Nursing Times in the UK. I don't think you'll have any difficulty finding work with your experiesnce. They do take your experience into account (which I havn't pushed for yet). Try and get a statement from your employers here in the Uk that proved years of experience, they have 8 increments, one for each years experience. Hope this is of some use

Kath, what are you doing with your superannuation. Is it straightforward to transfer?

hi karen
where abouts on the anf site do you access the wages part? I have just been on it and couldnt access that particular info!
I enquired thru an agency who arrange hospital sponsorship in adelaide and was told the starting salary was $32000 - what a difference!! think I will redirect to WA!
how far into the application process are you?

If mental health nurses were offered double what they get now, it wouldnt be enough!!!
I don't think many of you realise just whats involved in this kind of work.
My husband currently looks after some of New Zelands most notorious and violent mental patients. We are talking murderers, rapists etc.
Verbal abuse is the daily norm. How many of you get spat on at work???
How many of you spend most days at work under the threat of violence?
How many of you have to wipe faeces off walls smeared on there deliberately?
How many of you have to listen and counsel someone who has murdered their children?
The list goes on... we certainly are not looking for sympathy, it was a chosen career path. But to bemoan them earning a measly $47,000 per year is a joke!!!
