The random number is a check digit, you get them on travellers cheques and the like, you use a special formula with some or all of the whole number and the result is the check digit. the only number you should use for a passport is the one that says passport number on the top right hand side of the page

We got ours back today aswell and I have just checked ours.
The very last line reading from right to left is:
visa type no
m or F (male/female)
dob
uk
passport no. (full number 9 digits)

PHEW!!!!! Confusion sorted - we have the full passport number on each sticker ( left hand side ) PLUS the extra RANDOM digit.
PANIC over!!!!!!!!

been delaying the booking of meds until i get the all clear from my doc. been to see him with a few problems he thinks related to stress....."anything on your mind?" he asks... now that was a stupid question.
