Hi all
Just wondering if anyone could give me any ideas on suitable suburbs based on the following info[list][*]we are 25 and 28[*]we have no kids[*]we would ideally like to be around 20 mins from CBD[*]we would like easy access to the Sunshine coast[*]we will be renting approx $250/$300 per week, prefer house to flats[*]would like to be near a nice park[*]a bit of a buzz, cafe scene and some shops but not too lively
am I searching for the impossible? Ideas greatly received.

Greenslopes is a nice area, not too much cafe society though, wouldnt have thought Moorooka would have much either theres a bit of industrial areas in Moorooka, Annerley is a bit commercialised & industrialised as well, but still some nice parts, Salisbury is quiet & a bit sleepy & probably better suited to families. Have you tried places like Morningside & surrounds, I would definitely recommend Bulimba & surrounds if you can find something there, all of these are on the southside, easiest access to the SC would be Morningside as its straight onto the Gateway Bridge. Northside maybe try Nundah which as a lovely set of cafes & shops & is close to a large shopping centre & see if you can find something in the Clayfield area for the money.
All the areas closer to the city (within your 20 mins) will have mostly older houses, so dont expect new houses.

Greenslopes NICE area, lots of QLD'ers and very busy, plus good shops and malls, and direct route into town.
Annerley, also good area, very busy road wise, but big area, and also very close to town, can be expensive
Graceville, dont know it, so sorry.
Also look at Mt Gravatt, logan rd, takesyou straight into town, via klump rd and M1
Nice area, can be very very expensive, specially if you have a mountain goat driveway and views of neighbours roofs.
Least you are looking South SIDE
One of the guys I work with lives in Mt Gravatt, and its a very good community, lots of shops, and good position.
2 mins to Mains rd and head sth towards Beaudesert, and also towards Ipswich.
Get on Logan rd and head north to town and south to Logan and Gold Coast.
Just something I saw in previous thread....
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fully appreciate the size of Brisbane, it is MASSIVE
Sunshine coast is about 100k north and gold coast about 60k south of cbd i think.
Plus, if you live in an area where you cannot easily get onto the freeway and over the Gateway, then travelling thru every suburb known to man, to get anywhere will seriously piss you off
For safetys sake I would hedge your finances more to 350 mark to be safe.
A mate in Melby told me about 3 yrs ago, when you are in uk, you cant help but think every pound you spend is worth 2.5 dollars, when you live here , every dollar equates to a pound....
Takes some getting your head round, but those that live here will tell you its spot on.
Your 250 Bucks will seem great at first, cos you think, shite thats 100 quid a week, but when you see what you get for 250 pmsl, you will die.
Also , dont for one minute think that Australia, is some third world continent, surrounded by blue seas white sands, and inhabited by ute drivin abos. Its more technoligically advanced and cosmopolitan that possibly any other country i know of.
Also you will find Australia is the epitome of Irony, blending rurality with suburbanism and commercialised centres betwixt shanty towns and villages.
Its more diverse than most people imagine.
The standard of living here, is far superior to that in the uk.
This ultimately means if you want the blend, as i said before of :
Choice > Locality > Affordability, you are gonna have to shop around extensively
Steve
P.S.
My mate owns DEMAC construction.
He has starter homes LOL ( 4 bed dettched, with 2 baths, family room, dining room, BRAND SPANKING NEW + 2 aircons, landscaped etc, he has sites at Marsden, Chambers Flat, Logan etc , starting at $280 a week
AND THATS BRAND NEW !!!

I wouldnt hold my breath though .

Would recommend Bulimba - although we have never lived there we do have an investment property so we know the area quite well. Lively cafe scene and has a city cat terminal - fantastic for the city.
Another good place would be New Farm, again not somewhere we have lived but really trendy area which we have looked around and has a great feel to it and city cat terminal. Both areas you would probably be better off in an appartment as houses tend to be much older and the spec of appartments are really high.
Can't help with Northside suburbs, but as others have said Brisbane is a large place so you don't think twice about driving 1hour plus to go to fantastic beaches!

I rented a two bed workers cottage in Newmarket/Kelvin Grove for $290 a week, it was in great condition, big deck and garden etc. Ok, it was close to the ennogra road so you did here some traffic but not bad. I think you can do quite okay for $300 a week.
Someone mentioned Nundah, I think that would be a really good choice. I have friends there and went for brekkie in the village bit there yesterday, very nice.

Hi
I live in a place called Wooloowin which is 5km North of the city - on the train line so really easy to get into the city and to other suburbs. It is only 15mins from the airport but we are not in the flight path so no plane noise and it is really quick to get onto the main road that takes you up to the Sunshine coast! I am not sure what the rental prices are like around here but if you are looking on real estate.com.au other suburbs around this area are
Windsor
Clayfield (might be expensive)
Kedron
Albion
Wilston
Grange
Hope this helps - let me know if you want more info on the area around!
