North Straddie
We've just got back from a 3 day trip to North Staddie (thats North Stradbroke Island off the coast of Brisbane).
It is an amazing place, Main beach has got to be the biggest longest beach I've ever seen. Really nice sand too, and so quiet and deserted, about 5 or 10 people per mile of beach.
The offroading is great fun too. Some of the tracks are wild, and a bit scary, because you've been travelling for 10s of Ks and hit a few really deep pools of water, knowing that if the car stalls, you are sooo stuffed. (Hint to X-Trail drivers - your car can take driving through 4 foot deep pools of water for 10-15 metres... your front number plate can't , I have to go to Queensland transport tomorrow to try and get a new one).
The whole island is very quaint, dated, and out of touch, which is a novelty for a day or 2. By day 3 I was really missing tv radio mobile phones internet, there is only so much beach bumming and off-roading you can do before you want to just veg in front of the TV. We were at a particularly remote spot though (Point Lookout), maybe Dunwich or Amity Point aren't quiet so cut off.
If your coming to Brisbane for a reccie or just a holiday, I'd recommend North Straddie for a day or two, just to have some massive beautiful beaches all to yourself. Its only a 45 minute ferry away, but about 50 years behind!
Cheers,
JTL

Dear JTL
there is only rule about North Straddie, no-one talks about N Straddie. Why? So no other b*gger finds out about it, goes there and *spoils* it for those in the know.
We're back in Brisbane in August - a trip over is planned for as soon as it gets warm again.
OLi.

That'll either be Blue Lake or Tea Tree lake. You can swim there but best to do some in the hotter months as the water is freezing!
Point Lookout is a great Whale Watching place. Nice cafe dolls out espressos and gelattis while you watch the sea life!

Not much fish though, according to the inlaws.

Hmmmm do you mean that I wouldnt see people for days on end? That would be perfect & no internet would be wonderful. Must be something to do with me being an antisocialista
Can we scrape enough money together for a ticket for Dagboy as well?
