Default No experience or unskilled jobs

Hi,
we are currently applying for our visa and just sent off my TRA forms, we are going under the state sponsorship visa as a toolmaker to Perth. The thing is, i don't want to continue as a toolmaker once i arrive in Perth but find employment in something completely different. After reading so much on here I'm worried that every job i apply for you need to have experience and hold a license. In your opinion will it be too much of a struggle with money to start all over again? We are hoping to have a very small mortgage which helps, also OH hopes to work to. I would love to try something like landscape gardening or painter and decorator and happy to retrain in something.
Thanks in advance.

Can you get enough points for an independent visa? Then you have no restrictions where you go or what work you do when you get there.

Mate,

I completely retrained and went from civil enforcement, private investigation and close protection to now being a remedial sports massage therapist!

Anything's possible given the motivation to achieve it. Admittedly I had to hardcore train for a year but its specialised. There are heaps of jobs out there which dont require training. The local lawnmower guys make a mint the summer and dont think you need a degree to mow lawns.....

Thanks for your replies. Yes i could go for an independent visa by investing the 100k which is an option. Although we had been mainly looking at Perth anyway so the fact i could go via the state sponsorship route for that area hopefully it would go through a bit quicker and smoother.
I think it's the STNI visa, state sponsorship for a trade on the demand list. I understand i have to live there for 2 years, but no restrictions on the work side.
Centrurion, very encouraging to hear. I certainly don't mind hard work just want a different career, gods knows what in yet!

Thanks,
Malcolm.

Hi,
Once you have your visa ,then as far as i know you can work where ever you want to,OH came as a plumber but because of all the hassle in getting a licence he didnt bother, now hes doing something different.I believe if you want to go into painting you will need a licence unless you go as what they call a "brush hand" that means you can work under someone with a licence, but check it out.
It really depends how much you are looking to earn, there are alot of jobs if you dont mind starting at the bottom, but you may only get $15- $18 a hour.
It maybe a idea to have a look on the net to see whats on offer.
good luck,
by the way where in Berkshire are you,we lived in Woodley near Reading, been in Perth 3 years now.

Hi, We live in Currambine, and have 2 kids well they are grown up now,lol..boy 19 and girl nearly 22 but unfortunatly she only stayed here 15 months, she couldnt settle and went back to Reading, but we are hoping she will return one day.Our son has settled now though,it did take some time.
Good luck with your job search, you will find the wages are alot lower here,,but hey you cant have everything,lol...If you have a good deposit for a house you should be fine,I have heard Kinross school and Mindarie college is very good if you are also checking out schools for the kids.
good luck

thanks for the info on the schools, yes we are planning to visit some schools. I wonder if my son will settle as easy as he thinks. At the moment he has everything on the doorstep as far as cinema's, bowling, ice skating etc, so doesn't need to be taken everywhere. Are there cinema's and so on outside of the city area or will it be a trip in everytime? I guess before we know it he'll be driving himself there!!
Thanks,
Malcolm.

The Pommy guy who does are garden retrained from a chef to a gardener. He went to TAFE (Tech. College) to get his diploma and then set himself up as a self-employed gardener. I'm not sure if he needs a licence. I don't think he does but I will ask him. He is always busy and I'm sure he makes a decent living.
