I've just downloaded it at work and made a whole heap of new Australian mates who wanted to see where they or their family came from.

I think it's an incredible thing. The detail of Brisbane is amazing.

What a find - well done

:D

can you only search by typing in place names? i want to click on the map please. then i want to see the flowers in the garden and be able to virtual tour the streets and, preferably, the houses and shops. thanks

You can point and click.

Zoom out first until you see the whole earth, then move left, right, up or down, until you are about central to where you want, then begin zooming back in, adjusting left/right as required. :)

ok, i've got it now. couldn't see the toolbar! what a tool. i can see straightaway that this may be the new obsession. now i will have to divide my time between realestate.com/be/google earth. might have to cancel a few goodbye parties to make time. thanks for the tip! excellent.

The coolest feature is to set all your 'places' , such as your old UK home, your new Australian home, other places of interest in UK or Hong Kong or wherever, and then click the little 'play tour' button in the 'Places' section. And it flies you around the world zooming in and out of all your places of interest.

It is sooo addictive :) Though a bit vertigo inducing, :o

My only complaint is it doesn't have high-res photos of Northern Ireland yet.

The resolution is not gret anywhere compared to the states yet - try eg. Boston!!

There is an upgrade which you get higher res

the resoution of WA is amazing - compared to say brighton which has a dirty great cloud over It!

This is so cool, spent about 3 hours last night looking for evey place I have ever lived and all my relatives. My mum got quite freaked out when I told her I could see the oak tree in her front garden :D

Even better, sit in a darkened room, hit 'play tour' and then go to View->Full Screen.

Not recommended for those scared of heights! http://jm.g.free.fr/smileys/Yahoo_26.gif

what it is - is a map tool on steroids - you will be able to zoom right into eg. a house in perth and see the swimming pool!

It makes a great research tool for migrants and nosey types too.

link

you have to download it and broadband is reccommended
