Hi Mackayla,

We have a couple of re-location companies coming round this week to give us quotes on shipping our things. We are currently thinking that we won't be taking much of our furniture i.e beds, sofa, dining table & chairs etc and just buy new when we arrive. What do you think? We will be renting a house to begin with but can you tell me, do you know if the rental houses come with cooker, washing machine etc or would we need to buy these items?

Any advice would be a great help. We are hoping to leave Uk at the end of September early October. Can't wait to move to Mackay.

Hi Nikki,

We brought everything with us in our container. My thoughts were that if I had things around me that I felt comfortable with it will hopefully help me settle in better and for me it has worked but other people like the thought of going out and buying all new !!
Regarding the rental you should get a cooker with it but probably not a washing machine but you can rent one easily enough as that is what we did as we purchased a new one just as we came out and put it into our container.

Michelle,

So confused about what to do for the best regarding furniture. I suppose it would be nice to be surrounded by familiar things. I think once the
re-location bloke has been tomorrow (Monday) I will have a better idea what to take with us. I am so excited but also nervous. It has been dream of ours to re-locate to OZ. I can hardly believe it is really happening. Will have to look for somewhere to live straight away as we only have accommodation for 1 month. Looking at all the different suburbs they all seem really nice. I suppose we will have to wait untill we get there before we decide, but that's all part of the "new life".

How long did you have to wait for your items to arrive? Are there any items we should definatly bring with us?

Can't wait!!

Hi Nikki

The guys who packed our things were great and they just took over and packed everything !! They just kept saying take everything as its easier to replace bits at a time than a whole house.
We waited 11 weeks for our items to finally arrive so we just bought the what we needed to survive ie: kettle, microwave etc
Cant think what you should definitly bring because as we brought everything I never thought oh we should have bought this or that !! Sorry no help there

Michelle,

You have been a great help. Will let you know how we get on. I'm off to bed now, not that I'm sleeping very well at the moment. Keep waking up and thinking about all the things we need to do. It will all be worth it in the end. I'm sure I will be asking you more questions along the way.

Michelle,

Re-location man just been. We have gone from not taking anything to taking everything we own. Amazing! The man said that as we are not paying for it we would be better off taking everything and just replacing things when we need to. So that's what we are going to do. He said it would fill a 20ft container and would only take about 6 - 8 weeks to ship. I feel like a great big weight has been lifted. Still need another quote but seems more likely that we could be ready to go at the end of this month.

Hi Nikki,

You do right if the company is paying for it ! You must be doing the right thing if you feel like you do !!
Well you will be arriving at a nice time ! Yesterday was the 1st day of Spring here and my daughter was in the pool ! The weather is starting to warm up (not that its been cold) so it will be lovely when you arrive !

We have had no summer what so ever. The weather has been dreadfull. We have not had any sun. I haven't minded too much as it has given me a chance to sort out the house and get it in order ready to rent. If the weather had been better we would have gone out much more and less would have been done around the house. I'm so excited. I want to be there now.
I'm so jealous to know that it is warm enough to go into a pool. Have you been to the new lagoon that opened a few weeks ago?
