Hi,
There are some really nice places to live but it depends if you want to live in the centre or in the suburbs. We live in Eimeo one of the suburbs which is about a 3 minute drive from the beach. Other nice areas are Rural view, Eimeo, Mount Pleasant, Bucasia, Blacks Beach, Shoal Point and Glenella but becareful there as some areas of Glenella got flooded last Febuary.
What do you do for a job? Is your wife wanting to work?

Rick.

Hi,
Your project doesn't happen to be for Queensland Rail would it? As I work in Sarina on a Queensland Rail Depot and there building a massive new part next to it. So i'm guessing it will be there. I work for Siemens as a commissioning Engineer on new class 3800 locomotives.
Yes i'm afraid Lisa will get a little bored because there's only so much to do in mackay. My wife Julie is looking for work at the moment due to the boredom.

Rick.

Got it in one there Rick, I will be working on the new build there. Looking forward to it, spent time in rail working for Network Rail/Railtrak, First Enginering and Edmund Nuttall, always enjoyed it and the work fits my experience just nicely.
Both me and Lisa fancy Blacks Beach to live but fear it may be too far for schools and things, I suppose you cant have it all. Having said that I put in an enquiry on a place in Beaconsfield and it seems nice enough.

I think we should be there by mid Sept with a view to starting work pretty much soon after.
Is the pace of life any slower there ?
How you finding the weather change? Is it good?

Sorry for asking so many questions but I guess its the anticipation !!

Cheers

Hi,
Blacks Beach is really nice we looked at a few houses there. Are you looking to buy or rent? Renting is quite expensive you will be looking about $500-$600 a week for a 4 bedroom house which will pretty much be brand new.
Yes the pace of life is alot slower out here. I'm sure the men out here think that having a beard and looking like your from the band ZZtop in the in thing.
There are some nice places to eat which we have tried.
the weather hasn't been too much of a problem at the moment it's been around 22degress each day but in summer it can get to about 35 degress and it quite humid i'm told.
Ask as many questions as you like i'll try to answer them all.

Rick.

Hi Rick

We are looking to rent initially as we are unsure where to live, we have been looking thru realestate.com and seen a load of nice places. Mainly Blacks beach, Eimeo, Glenella, Mount Pleasent, Shoal Point and the odd one in Dolphin heads. Not sure whether to make enquiries now or wait 'til we land. Lisa was asking what the traffic was like ? I reckon I will get her a car with bullbars !!! He he. She is thinking the further North we go then the further we are away from schools? But it would be nice to be near shops and things. Are pools quite common with the properties? I'll be happy with a beer and a barbie over weekends but I was looking to bringing my bike over but its too expensive. Might get one there or look into a little boat for weekend fun. I reckon boating could be expensive though.

Cheers

Re: New to Mackay

Hi Ste,

Shoal Point is the farthest point and is quite far out. the rest are all within about 10km of the centre and yes you would be further from the schools.
There is a school and kindergarden at Rural View that is where my friend Jamie sends his two little girls.
Yes alot of cars have some damn big bull bars on them don't know what people are planning on running over.
Alot of the houses don't have pools, but there opening a new lagoon up this weekend which will be free to go to. And if you get a house in places like Blacks Beach and Eimeo your about a 5 minute drive from the beach anyway.
Everyone here seems to ride a Harley and there a bike shop in the centre of Mackay next to the boat shop.
Trust me it would of been cheaper to bring your bike out here than it would of been to bring my dogs. We got quoted 8000 pounds to get them out here, so they've had to stay at home with the father in law.

Whats the story with dogs, Rick, do you have a few of them? I know we looked into it to bring ours with us but the expense was thru the roof. Luckliy Lisa's sister is going to move into our house and look after things.

We are looking at third week in Sept to fly, handed my notice in today, finishing on the 5th then a couple of weeks to tie things up then off !!! Praying the weather is good when we land:D

Hi,
We have 2 Japanses Akitas which weigh about 8 stone each so there a big heavy dog to fly out, so we have left them with Julies dad.
The weather should be fine when you get here. We have had about 3-4 days of rain and we've been here a month but that was at the begining when we arrived. It's been sun shine since then.
Rick.
