Need to change driving licence on temp visa?

Need to change driving licence on temp visa?
I thought I knew how this worked but now I'm not so sure.
Come Monday I'll be in the ACT 3 months. I've got a provisional spouse visa, which is temporary. I'd expect to get permanent residence about April '06. So, question is, do I need to get an ACT driving licence before Tuesday or continue with my UK one? With PR I know I would need to, but it would appear this is not the case with non-PR visas.
While I know this may differ from state to state, I think the 3 month thing 'for PR/not for temp' is the same. Can anyone verify this?
