I know I'm a dumb ass, but thought I'd just check to make sure!

I understood it could play any region DVD's on UK tv, but wasn't sure if there'd be any link up issues or any PAL/NTSC crap.

Cheers,
Martin

Not always true. We have a multi region player (a Samsung made multi region by putting in a code) and we have had our first brand new Aussie DVD that won't work.

Is it a copy? No reason why it shouldn't work. Maybe your decoding to multi region has'nt worked?

Hi, in the uk we are region 2 and we quite ofter get multiregion players supplied by dealers, or even done ourselves but they are often only region 1 and 2 and called multi region (uk and us). What you need to find out is does your multiregion hack include region 4? If you are worried you can order a region 4 dvd from cdwow and test your machine before you go! But saying that you will need a uk player when you get to aus to play all your uk dvd's. Plus dont forget to take a scart to 3 phono lead with you as aus tv's dont use scart leads! Hope this helps?

Brand new out of the wrapper from Coles, and we have been watching DVD's from the local rental place for some time, so the decoding has worked fine. I tried watching it on the PC, but it is copy protected so it may be something to do with that.

Maybe it's a "region free" player rather than a multi-region player.
Some discs effectively ask the player 'what region are you' ? - if the answer is wrong (region 0 = region free = wrong answer) then the disc jumps to a "no play" section of the disc instead of the movie itself.

If you have a multi-region player set to the correct region (1=usa, 2=europe, 4=aus etc) you can play any disc.

Just coz it's multi region it doesn't mean it will work there, i'd try doing a search on the model on the internet to be sure. We just bought one in the states and nearly got caught out by that - multi region ONLY means that it will play DVD's from all regions not that it will work everywhere.

This is something that I have wondered (sorry if I am being completely thick!)
....We have a large collection of DVD's (UK region)...if we don't take our DVD player, can we buy a DVD player in Oz that will play our UK DVD's?

We've just bought one in the US that will play our UK ones, they seem to have become much more widely available in the last few months, just read the bumf carefully before buying to make sure it really does cover ALL regions.

In my experience, multi-region usually means "region-free."

I have a Philips Jackrabbit 3, which plays UK and Australian DVDs equally well.

Just in case anyone cares, I rechecked the region that our DVD is set to via the remote control hack, and it had been reset to region 2. Set it back to 9 (all regions) and it is fine again
