Yeh, the flies are bad too, they are just as bad as the mozzies
when ever you walk outside, you have to breathe in very carefully incase you inhale one :scared: its quite funny watching people walking outside, all you can see is a whirl of black dots around their heads as twenty thousand flies follow them about, its not funny when its you though

I can't believe the price of these things... they're about £3.50 (about AU$8.50) over in UK... not AU$19.95 :scared: ...
I can still feel a business opportunity coming on!

My Yard Guard works, it's only a 25 watter as well, supposedly thats enough for 1/2 an acre.
Are you leaving them on 24/7 ?? Because you need them on at dusk and dawn for sure.
Correct about the anti hystemines, like telfast, those hayfever remedies do the trick.

I've also go one of those UV zappers you see in shops and camp sites, its the square ones with straight UV tubes and a 3.5Kv grid and that one does work fine and gets a fair few of the buggers, infact I have to wash it out every few days because it gets so many. Thats how I know my Yard guards are ineffective. Trouble is I can't find any more of the industrial ones, If I could I would buy a dozen of them!
I saw one in Bunnings yesterday called 'yard guard ' costs about $47, would that be the one??
certainly wont be needing it today, its pissing down with rain today
and quite cool, think top temp today has to be 18oc
i was enjoying the high 20s we were getting there, not to warm, just nice

[QUOTE=SonicBird][COLOR=DarkOrchid][SIZE=3][FONT=Tahoma]Hello, I don't know if you can get 'Clickers' in Oz. I bought one last year, from Asda, before I went to Goa. It cost me about £.50. it's a little plastic yellow cone shaped 'thing' with a button on the top. Basically you put it over the mozzie bite, and click it about 10 times, it puts a small charge into the bite, which stops it itching and takes down the swelling. Much more useful than calomine lotion, creams or any of that stuff.
Have a look in your local pharmacy? If not, then I can feel a business opportunity arising.
Hi Sonic,
Just to say thanks for the info about 'CLICKERS', they are still being sold in our local Asda!
On your advice we bought quite a few at £3.50 each. After telling our friends in Brisbane about them we now have to go and buy some more
Hope they work
Cheers

Just ordered one of those clicker things. I figured that I could either spend that much or go hunting in the shops. I was bitten about 20 times the other night, serves me right for not putting insect repellent on. Also going to go buy some of the nivea spray on moisturiser to try as when we first came I was using that and didn't get bitten.........will see if it works or I was just lucky.

Mrs R suffers from all things 'bitey' and has now discovered the cure. It was in a local paper,
1 cup (measure) of water
1 tablespoon of Vodka (can use meths as an alternative)
10 - 15 drops of Lavender oil (depends how strong you want it)
Place altogether in a spray bottle and just spray all over exposed skin.
Seems to be working for her and you can also use the rest of the vodka to blot out the pain from being bitten before you made the mix
Hope this helps
