Morning all,
My family and I are moving over to Brisbane in August and we’re just trying to sort the basics out.
we have two boys aged 12 & 8 and would love some advice on schools, best areas to live etc.
On a side note, our eldest is quite the accomplished footballer and it’s a big deal us moving away so I’d really like to try find him a team before we get over. He plays at a very high level so any suggestions would be amazing.
Thanks all in advance,
Alan

Do you mean football or soccer? Just a heads up - football in Australia has a different meaning. Soccer not such a big deal here but there are teams around and there are probably talent squads, there are talented programs for most sports (ah, I see that Queensland soccer is trying to reclaim the "football" title LOL). https://footballqueensland.com.au/player-pathway/
Best areas to live usually depend on work, budget, vacancies, additional services - you'll probably be in a better place to work that out once you have a job.
Plenty of schools around and all have priority enrolment areas so there will be no difficulty getting into your local school - they're obliged to find a place if you live in their area. There is usually a parallel Catholic system - they often have the stronger sporting focus too - so if you dont like what the government system has to offer there's the option of Catholic. There is also quite a strong independent private system and probably more kids go to private schools in secondary than would do in UK.

Soccer isn’t a major adult sport in Australia but it’s bigger than Rugby (Union). AFL and NRL are the two big football sports.

In terms of participation, soccer is no. 3 behind swimming and cycling according to this.

On the contrary, teens and adults migrate to soccer when they start breaking stuff playing rugby.

Not in Australia they don’t. Compare the minuscule irrelevant A League to the NRL or AFL.

There are loads of soccer clubs in Brisbane. For kids it is the highest participation sport and also very popular with adults. <snip>

- how close to the CBD you and/or your partner need to be, for commuting purposes?
- very roughly, what you're looking to spend, on a purchase or rental?
- whether you're looking at state school vs private school options, or either?
