There's lots of recent stuff on Brisbane be quicker to do search at top of page. Put Brisbane in key workds and remember to change the box that says 'and newer' to 'and older'.

On here you will need to give an idea of if you want mountains, beaches how close to city and what line of work to get any sensible answers.

Hi,moving to Brisbane next summer........hopefully! Mango Hills/ North Lakes seems to be quite popular with Brit Expats, it's a fair bit out but the house prices appear reasonable compared to the UK.

We are going out next may.. considered north lakes, it looks nice, but perhaps over planned box land.

Now maybe petrie, albany creek, the gap.. or something near the coast.. hard to judge areas without actually walking around etc..

Should be fun, so any of you over there now want to invite me round for tea please feel free

We're in a similar position - were thinking of North Lakes etc but now thinking that because our 8 yr old daughter likes lots of activities we may be better off in a more established area - places like The Gap, Bracken Ridge etc seem to have riding schools and dance classes (probably have them in North Lakes too!) Also depends on where OH works - if he ends up in the CBD then want to reduce commute time to less than now and some suburbs around 8-16km of CBD look good. Next minute I think perhaps it would be good to live nearer the coast (5 yr old son would love that, and all of us would really) - so start looking at Ormiston, Deception Bay etc.

Anyway have decided to write list of requirements in some kind of priority order - get an idea of locations then when we go use list to try and keep focused on what we want and just hope somewhere stands out for us. Then use the expertise of the BE posters to check on schools, problems etc once we think we have found the right place. Wish I didn't have so much time to think really - we're not going until May - probably end up somewhere totally different from what we expect.

We did get a book Where to live - Greater Brisbane - it doesn't unfortunately cover areas such as North Lakes, Petrie and Albany Creek but gives an idea of places to avoid etc - most of the info you can get online but its useful to have in in book format.

We are moving to Brisbane in January. We went out in April to have a look at various suburbs and its not made much easier by being there, as there is a lot to choose from. We have decided on Samford as its a little further out and semi rural. Samford State school is meant to be very good though is a large school. We have two daughters and have been doing a lot of research into schools, there is plenty of advice on here where to look. We found www.ourbrisbane.com very useful for advice on suburbs and the schools available in each area. Like you we dont know many people out there, but by the looks of things on here, there are a few of us heading that way next year!! Suggest you compare the schools QSA results for years 3,5 and 7. these are normally available on the individual schools website.

Hi Mate,
I'll be heading over in January and the Mrs,kids, dogs and furniture will head over when we have sold the house. We're in Christchurch, New Zealand at the moment and have been here 2 years, before that Auckland for 12 months. The kids are 5 and 2 so yes we need to sort out a decent area. We have mulled over quite a few and are leaning towards "Bayside" but that could change, a friend is putting me up first of all and he lives in Cashmere so I might stay round that area, don't know yet
I'm sure it will all fall in to place come January.
So it looks like you'll be visiting me for tea/beer

Keep posting how your getting on.

Ian

Big riding place above Petrie does all sorts not sure about dance though bound to be something of the sort around North Lakes area.
