Moving to Adelaide in July

Currently children start primary school the term after they turn 5,so we have four intakes per year at the start of each term.
This will be changing, either next year or 2013 (can't remember, sorry)when children will start reception at the beginning of the school year if they are 5,or turning 5 in May of that year.
The school year starts at the end of January/beginning of February.

There are loads of mums 'n' tots type playgroups around, where you stay with the child. These are very cheap and give you a chance to chat with other local mums. Alternatively there are private childcare centres where you can leave the child all day. Not cheap though!!!!

hello all,
we have never been in adelaide so my hubby will move first and we will come a month later, i was looking at henleay near the beach but I am not sure about school.
I had a very bad experience here in uk on arrival and i am not ready for a new experience without knowing a good school, as it makes a huge difference
any advise if henley near the beach is ok for school?
thanks

I concur you can commute from Mt Barker to Adealide on public transport but its a stretch. I used to commute from Port adealide to mt barker when I worked for Mt Barker Council. It took my hour and a half. Train into the city then a walk to the busstop outside Harris scafe. There were'nt many buses but it took 45 minutes back then.

Have a look at http://www.myschool.edu.au/, it's a good guide as it gives a generic idea of the profiles of each school. Although this site has controversial opinions. My kids (5 & 9) go to Highgate Primary (public) and we are really happy with it. We are considering to go private when they go to High School.
Also agree with Mipik about the suburbs, although the rental prices there are higher than other areas.
