Default Mortgage in Oz - How easy?

Hi
Will be going to Oz once the Visa comes through (fingers crossed). With the sale of my UK house intend to buy house or plot in Oz (Sunshine Coast area), but may need to top up with a mortgage of some sort as will probably be a bit short of what we want to get.
How easy / difficult is it to get a mortgage on a Skilled Independant Visa? Are the rules the same as the UK? Do they calculate how much you can borrow based on your salary?
Regards
Shaun

It also seems to help when you have a large deposit.
We got some strange looks when we first went asking for a mortgage (only been in a job a few weeks etc) but as soon as you mention a 6 figure deposit most of those barriers suddenly disappear as if by magic.

Red face Re: Mortgage in Oz - How easy?

Hi Shaun&Dee
We are waiting to go to Ormeau, south of Brisbane but can't sell our house! Now thinking of renting it out in desperation. This means like you we will need a mortgage and don't know how easy this will be. Does anyone know if UK income (ie from rent) can be considered against an Ozzie mortgage? We would have a deposit but don't know what work we might get. If we could use the £650 a month UK rental income, that might help get us started!
Regards.

Just had ours come thru today, took 2 days, put a third down as deposit plus in permanent employment for more than 3 months. Only saw the house on Sun, offer accepted Sun night in with contract and deposit, to be completed within 28 days of finance being accepted. Lot simpler and quicker than the hoops we had to jump thru in the UK, its about time it was sorted out over there.
