MoneY Matters
Hi there,
i am hoping to go to OZ next year when my visa comes through and was wondering what to do about money transfers. i want to put all my money in an oz account while i am still in the UK, so that when i arrive in OZ i can access and withdraw some money straight away. does anyone have any advice/help on this. what have previous immigrants done with their money in the UK so that they can get it in OZ. do some of you take it over in travellers cheques and then open accounts when you get over there?
i know i could open a migrant account in london with the commonwealth bank, but there is a problem in that i cant activate the account in Cairns (which is where i am going first), the account would have to be activated in Brisbane the next nearest place they offer, which is no use as i intend to be in the cairns area for at least 4/5 weeks before i get to brisbane. what can i do? i could put some money in the migrant account while over here, take the rest in travellers cheques to use for the first 4/5 weeks, but i dont really want to do that - any help please
cheers for any help

Hi,
i have just emailed the CBA in London who tell me they can have my details sent to Cairns to activate mt a/c there and get access to money. This is really good, so i just put all my money in the CBA (if i go with them) while in ther UK and get it straight away when i arrive in Cairns. other tips/advice on what to do with money is still appreciated.
cheers for any help
