Dont take no for a answer or let them take their royal time to get back to you. REAs are notoriously slow/pathetic and hate ruffling their client's (the owner) feathers. We are in our second rental with mold/damp issues. Problem is, we always move around Dec and the problem normally only rears its head when the winter comes! Firstly, bug them like hell. Write, phone and email them, and keep copies of this. Tell them to come and clean the gutters, this is often a big part of the problem. They have to send someone round to come clean the mold inside off with bleach. Then, if you feel a certain part of the house is especially damp, get them to buy or rent a dehumidifier. Also let them check that all the extractor fans are working. Our agents have done all these things for us, no charge. Remember to tell them that this is damaging their clients house and your health. Dont give them any slack.

Stick your pride in your pocket and go make a nuisance of yourself at their offices. Trust me, that is the only way some of these people get the message, as they otherwise forget about you immediately after talking to you. In a previous rental, I actually emailed the agent (after they promised a dehumidifier and none was coming) and told him that if he did not get a dehumidifier within a week, or let us buy one and send him the receipt, I will rent one ($170 per month) and deduct it from the rent. Did that for a month, then they woke up and bought one. Keep up the pressure, it is your health, not theirs, at stake here. If the person you normally deal with isn't taking you seriously, escalate it till you speak to the manager/owner.

Hi, in the interim while you hassle the REA try some oil of cloves. When mixed with baby oil or similar it can be sprayed on the mould/mildew and will remove/kill the spores - very effective and way better than bleach or anything else.

Good luck.
