I had an awful thought. here in the UK, we have built up an immunity to a lot of the bugs we meet every day. Please tell me that we don't have to spend a few years with a perpetual cold to build that immunity up again...

Hope the colds and sniffles disappear. My nephew always seemed to have a runny nose and cold here , but since moving to Oz last year I think he's had one cold if that?

Not heard of them having to adjust to new bugs or colds, just enjoying themselves and having a ball!! Can't wait to get there!!!!!

I have heard of some people going through that. We still get the odd cold - generally when the weather turns hot to cold or vice versa but the symptoms don't seem so bad when the sun dries up your snot before it hits your toes

What we do seem to get instead though is minor tummy bugs, dizzy spells, fatigue etc probably caused by the heat / dehydration / flies on uncovered food. Not full on food poisoning, just off colour for a few days.

Queenslanders seem to come down with colds constantly from about April to September. People claim it is "flu" but it generally appears to be the equivalent of UK bad colds,They do linger though, and a lot of people are under the weather for weeks.

We def don't get the same number of colds we got back in the UK, that's not to say we don't get any though, air conditioned offices mean its inevitable I think.
When we first arrived we both had a few stomach upsets, I guess just getting used to some of the new bugs etc. around. Didn't last long though.

When you first arrive you can expect to catch every little bug that there is here. We were all under the weather for about 6 or 8 weeks. Between the jetlag and new viruses our immune systems were just not up to par. My kids seem to get less colds here although they both suffer ear infections now. Probably from so much swimming. At the moment I'm fighting off a sore throat, but dare not tell my husband. He'll tell me that I need the "miracle cure".

We have been here about 7 months, and we have been healthy.

Usually with 4 kids we have every bug going. Here nothing!

We certainly havent seen the amount of people sniffling with colds and flu you get in Europe.

PMSL. I have the feeling that I know what the miracle cure is.

Interesting that QLD seems to have more colds - wonder if it's the humidity?? I will be prepared for a few weeks of yuk and hope that we get off lightly.

I have always thought of myself as a healthy person - until my daughter went to school, then I had every bug under the sun for 4 years... Just getting better this year now she's 8. However, she's just very kindly brought the flu home for us to enjoy.:curse:

At least you can get the flu jab in Oz.

Often people get a cold very soon after they fly in - must be something to do with the conditions on the plane. We get colds just the same as anywhere else and last season we had a ripper doing the rounds - lasted about 3 weeks for everyone who got it.

Another thing I noticed much more here than in UK was the number of middle ear infections that kids get (and I even got one too after all these years!) and the number of kids who have to have grommets inserted - may be subjective but appears more common to me.

That's good news. When I have been over there on holiday I have only caught a cold once BUT with DD at school, I was expecting the worst. Kids seem to breed germs.
