Thanks in advance! :)

Usually a 4 burner is the smallist size for most people unless you are in an apartment where size or lack of does matter. a 5 burner would give more space for roasting vegies and roast.

Usually the cheaper BBQ's have pressed metal components (manifolds, jets, etc) which corrode over time, especially near the coast. Enameled finishes should last longer than paint.
Good wheels to push it around. Can you close it up? Would you use a rotisseire?

Hoods are useful for roasting, the cleanup is a breeze!

Stainless steel ones can be difficult to keep clean.

Generally you get what you pay for and in the long term a higher outlay may save you more. I did think however that the all singing, all dancing $7k stainless steel one from BBQ galore was just a little over the top :)

Thank you all again! Bix...he loves the site...probably will go in our favourites now

I think the 5 burner has been decided as the clear winner, so off we go today in search of the holy grail bbq. wish us (me!) luck!

A side burner is a must: just wait till the first power outage and you would kill for a cup of coffee!

Another point, if you have a gas BBQ, you can use it during total fire bans, and if you want that smoked flavour, place wood chips in a metal pan and place that over a burner (this is where getting a BBQ with hood pays off).

megalania...now we're talking!! could double up as a sunbed too :scared:

Well, we visited BBQ Galore... he was in heaven...but slightly disappointed in a couple of things in comparison to a slightly more expensive one in K-mart. ie. the hinge action on the lid...bit wobbly, not too robust and the drip tray was like you'd get a chinese takeaway in?! Went to Bunnings, who favour one brand only, and were slightly torn till I pointed out it wasn't so robust either......

sooooo....big drum role...(oh the excitement  ) I think it's gonna be a Jackaroo (think that was the name) 6 burner with side burner, little cupboard at the bottom, a set of big wheels one end and wee wheels t'other, all for $599 reduced from $799.

Well glad that's sorted...now just need the outdoor furniture set, the pool recliners, etc, etc........................ :D

No, the regulations normally state that its still okay to have a barbi in a properly constructed Barbeque. By that I assume they mean you cant light a fire in a bucket and roast sausage over it or something. Pollyana is the expert on that.... regulations I mean, not roasting sausages over a bucket.

I have to say, I never understood the point of Gas BBqs, its just cooking outside. But then someone (Im guessing ABCDiamond ;) ) explained to me that it get so darn warm here in summer its easier to cook outside. Which makes sense.

Still doesn't explain Gas Barbeques in the UK. What is the point?

We have a little Weber Kettle BBQ which does us well. I'm basically a caveman, I light fire, I watch fire, I cook meat on fire. Where is the fun in flicking a switch and cooking on gas? Thats what you do in the kitchen

And the flavours are not comparable. One is smokey, maybe slightly burnt on the outside and raw on the inside. The other is perfectly cooked and tastes like it was cooked indoors. Again, no point to a gas BBQ other than to keep the house cooler in summer.

Does anyone still in the UK have an explanation why they have a gas barbeque? Have they lost their inner caveman :p

i used to think that there were these things you could put on a gas bbq that gave the food the 'wood smoked' falvour of a wood/charcoal bbq. it sat underneath the grill, but over the flame. anyone know if i dreamt this up, or maybe this is how i can make my millions....

and what's with the hotplate on a bbq?? might as well fry your food.

i have a charcoal bbq right now, and it takes too bloody long to get going. so when i get a gas one i'm gonna make sure it doesn't have a hotplate, or it's at least removable.

That is your fire gazing time. I'm not making this up. Research showed that men need 30 minutes 'fire gazing' time when they get home from work to unwind from the stresses of the day. (Basically they can't handle the wife and kids yakking at them as soon as they get in the door)

It stems from caveman times when the hunters return from the hunt, and sit round the fire gazing into it after a hard days hunt, while the women prepare the food they killed.

I am not making this up honest. I'll try and find the article...
