Absolutelly, Im a Charcoal Man (On the rare days you can have a BBQ in Scotland) but this gas thang seems pretty popular in Oz, I willing to give it a try if it makes things easier.

Does the food taste the same using a Gas BBQ? (ie in my case black and burnt!! :o )

Seemingly not, it's all about the taste that the charcoal gives the food, although the amount of crap they put on the meat over here, makes me wonder how they tell the difference :)

So its personal preference then. I guess you get more controllability with gas as opposed to the usual red-hot blazing furnace I always manage to create when I BBQ. Think Im a bit of a Pyro to be honest, I just cant help it :(

No!. Wood is the best, charcoal is ok if you can't use wood. Gas is pathetic.

Had a BBQ hosted by a couple of Sarf-Africans a few years back, it was awful, everything tasted of chemicals! We later found out they had used scrap wood! Hope you dont do that Amazulu...

That's ridiculous, idiots!. No, you use chopped wood (usually hardwood, not sure what type, I used to buy bags of it from the local petrol station), as dry as possible. It really is the best.

Oak would be good. It would take ages to burn down, but the coals would last for ages.
