It's extremely rare for anyone to proclaim that Melbourne's climate is the best there is and that it trumps the Gold Coast even. ESPECIALLY Melbourners.
So not quite the analogy, more like are you into women or do you have some strange animal fetish?

The correct name is Melburnians.
Weather is subjective.
I hate humidity. So for 7 - 9 months of the year, for me, Melbourne's weather is better than the Gold Coast's. For the other 5, in the winter, the Gold Coast would probably be better. But I can only live in one place while I am working!

As long as there aren't extremes, I can honestly say the Weather is a fairly insignificant factor in my own personal quality of life.
That being said, I really really hate anything above 38C .... from my point of view that's the worst weather for functioning for every day living. So I'm more likely to dislike the weather in Melbourne in our summer than anything that happens in winter.
I also get bored with bland 28C sun shiny days.... that would be very tedious for me to the point of bringing on a groundhog day kind of depression.
I wouldn't be seriously considering a move to Hobart in retirement if I disliked cooler weather.... Give me Hobart's climate over the Gold Coasts any day.... I do realise I'm in a minority with this kind of preference... but it's a far more sizeable minority than some people seem to believe could exist.

Yeah, we hear a lot about it here as well with pressure to move forward with stage two of the light rail project in the Gold Coast.
But is Melbourne's infrastructure really bad? Seems risky to take a dig at that if the Victorian Premier could come back with some proper stats and slam Sydney for traffic jams, etc.

Have to say, I've ever so slightly proud of the Melburnians today.
Border Farce announces "papers please" Gestapo-like round up of 'visa checks' at 10am, and by 2pm there is a protest on the streets, and by 2:30pm it's all cancelled. Reading between the lines the VicPol themselves were disgusted by what Abbott's goons said in their separate press release and wanted nothing to do with it.

So much for Abbott using security operations as 'vote winners'.
