MELBOURNE is emerging as a must-visit destination for the world's gay travellers.
Move over Sydney, it's Melbourne which has caught the queer eye
The city's bars, theatres, cuisine, parks, skyline and gay-friendly attitude have landed it the No. 2 spot on a list of top 10 international destinations.
"With its tree-lined boulevards, intimate restaurants, thriving theatre scene, Victorian architecture and a nightlife that easily rivals Sydney's, Australia's second city should come first on every antipodean visitor's itinerary," the gay.com website says.
The site lists emerging destinations for gay tourists who are "fed up with following the well-trod lavender road to the end of that boring old rainbow".
Melbourne was nudged out of top spot by Buenos Aires, Argentina, and came in ahead of Fort Lauderdale in the US, Vancouver in Canada and Hong Kong. Sydney, which hosts the annual Gay Mardi Gras, did not make the top 10.

I dare say the world's equal most liveable city is going to attract all sorts of people.
A place called Daylesford and Hepburn Springs to the north west of Melbourne has been completely revived by the 'pink dollar'. Spa therapy centres, B&B's, hotels, galleries, restaurants, craft shops, specialist bakeries etc have sprung up. Old buildings have been restored and stacks of Melburnians head up there for weekends and short breaks. Some of the old locals call them the 'pink dollar lot' and most of them are grateful for reviving the town, providing employment etc. People of all 'persuasions' visit the place and as some say - they really know how to look after you that lot. The mineral water is an acquired taste but every time we visit the various springs we go back with a boot load of plastic bottles filled with the stuff.
