Ok so this is more of a rant than anything.
Why are hotels in Melbourne either very expensive, shit boxes or both. Compared to whats on offer for the traveller across most of th UK.
In the UK we have lots of nice branded hotels with en-suite basic rooms for £ 40-60 per night per room at the drop of a hat.
In Melbourne they seem to want that for a 'backpackers bed only' and over £ 100 a night for a bed bug infested grot box in South Yarra, in standard season. Some of the reviews on trip advisor make you cringe at the state of some places.
and £ 100 a night for a 1 bed seviced appartment in Frankston, while I spend a couple of days looking round the penn. in March.

I used to spend at least one or two nights out of every couple of weeks in Melb on business. Tried a lot, but always ended up going back to the Stamford on Collins. Very pleasant staff and very easy to get a little suite instead of std. Gym is rubbish but the Virgin Gym around the corner is good. Nice Korean eateries close by. Used to be about $125 with breakfast IIRC (that's corp rate though).

Or try here.... and check out Ocean Grove and the Bellarine instead. Reason I suggested OG is that it's less than 1 hour from this location.... Mornngton slightly more.... probably 90 mins.
Forward Book and you can acheive 151 bucks per night for a double with the lot..

Any recommended searches for hotels in Brisbane? I need about 3-4 nights in the centre at the beginning of march.

I certainly can't think of many "nice, branded" hotels in London for £40-£60 a night.

£100 a night for a one bed room serviced apartment seems extremely reasonable.I guess some premiuer inns might be in the £40 - £60 bracket in the UK but not the ones in or near the cities. I think we spent £60 on one a few miles from Rochdale once.

Travel lodge maybe.... We have Forumula 1 over here thats more or less it's equiv... without the Breakfast. Formula 1's are about 80- 90 bucks per night for 3 people.
