Melbourne areas
Hi,
I'm trying to get some info on the different areas of melbourne.
I'd like to be no more than 1 hours train/car journey from the CBD and same to beach.
I have a 3 year old girl, so need to keep schools, things to do, beaches!! etc.. into consideration.
Presume South/South East of Melbourne is going to be best bet (though feel free to correct me), but are there any areas that should be avoided?
Working on the presumption that accomodation will be cheaper the further out from the CBD we go!
Thanks,
Martin

Lots of expats seem to have settled in the inner parts of the Mornington Peninsula - Frankston, Mount Eliza and a bit further out Mornington and Mount Martha. Frankston train station is 1 hour from CDB and all those areas have beaches.
Maybe do a search on realestate.com.au under those areas and see what you come up with.
I'm sure many others will have other suggestions.
Cheers

Thanks.
Was thinking Bayside or Mornington Peninsula.
Just looking on the website to see which is cheapest areas!
Not bothered about having to travel into work (already have to drive an hour), more worried about falling into a bad area (though as ctrrently live in Ince in wigan, doubt could get worse!!).

Dandenong (as opposed to The Dandenongs) also seems to have a bad rep.
I do not speak from personal experience though.

Just been looking at real estate in that area (rental initially) and seems very reasonable.
Do you know what the surrounding areas (Carrum/Carrum Downs/Chelsea/Seaford) are like?
Cheers,
Martin

A mate of mine from Aspull lives in Bayswater - he likes it there - great view of the Dandenongs etc
Seaford used to be very rough

In fact Frankston is probably my favourite out of all of them as busier and not so quiet.

We've been looking at Berwick and surrounding areas, most seem quite reasonably priced. Also considering Mornington as we do not know where hubby will be employed, just keeping our options open.

Beaumaris, Bayside is where we've found ourselves and it's fabulous. Decent beach, great shops, good community & schools and just 30 mins drive to the CBD.
Good luck.
