There are some lovely streets with great houses and then some pretty feral streets too - a real mixed bag. We're in The Basin which is 5 min drive away. Plenty of facilities and very easy access to a whole host of other suburbs + the new Eastlink (toll road) means faster access to the beach :0)

Re: Melbourne
Dodgy streets exist in every suburb. A nice street can change in an instant when a new neighbour moves in.:D

I do most of my food shopping around Boronia (for the past 3 years) and haven't been mugged once :D Yes, as I said there are plenty of dodgy streets - but it's a big place and there are some lovely areas too. |

Joking aside - you wouldn't want to hang around the train station at night, and of course that junction is the main thoroughfare - but the nice areas are nowhere near there. Also, you'll find that the areas around train stations in most suburbs are undesirable. BTW - I'm not disagreeing with you as such - but there ARE nice roads/areas in Boronia - I have friends who live in them - it's a big suburb. |

Re: Melbourne
I spent 2 yrs looking at over 150 houses and i've recenlty bought a lovely house in boronia, yes i agree there are some parts that might not be too great like all suburbs have, you just need to look around a bit. But it is nice otherwise i'd not of bought in the area, there is a good variety of shops and amenities.

Train stations are notorious late a night, that said both my kids have used the trains late at night and we live on the Frankston line, oh Frankston and nothing has happened to them. We cannot possibly judge an area unless we live it and as I said before it depends on the neighbours we get. |

Have a look up at the Basin as well. If your looking for bush setting but still commuteable. Our experience was good local food and service. Big blocks with good sized homes. And it like most of melbourne is family centric and safe.
