Love Melbourne, unique (the good unique) architecture, interesting people, 'ok' transport, there is always things going on in the city - never ever dull.

As for the climate nothing like the UK really, yes it can get cold but no snow unless you drive into the mountains. The summer, well, sometimes ******* hot. What did it get to last summer? 46 -47c? and many days over 40 and with this drought everything looks so parched and sick. One of the reasons I love the winter here is that you can actually see why it says "The Garden State" on the car plates. Maybe if it starts to rain a bit more in the summer months people will see the true beauty of Melbourne.

The lane-ways and cafes are great and shopping is good if your into it...

One huge problem is graffiti!!! Especially along the train lines graffiti covers EVERY square inch of fence, building, everything. BUT If your in the city and take a walk along the lane-ways you almost find an appreciation for the so called 'art'. There really is some imaginative murals (hate the tagging).

Much prefer Melbourne to all other Australian cities. And there is no point comparing Melbourne to London, a world away, different history and different culture... no point comparing anything.

Why can't everyone just accept that each and every city and place in the world is different and no one place is better than the other - other than to an individual?

I'm in Melbourne and have visited most Aussie cities (apart from Adelaide) and they all have different atmospheres, landscapes etc. They all have something different to offer and you just have to find one that suits you!

I've just had a few days in Sydney, the weather was lovely, the ferry ride over to Manly never ceases to amaze and the Northern Beaches with surf waves (and surfers...:D) were as awesome as ever. However, I do think Melbourne city centre is better laid out and has more character with the laneways, coffee shops, then areas like Lygon and Brunswick St, St Kilda etc.

As for the weather, well I have to say I do manage to miss most of Melbournes winter as we go back to the UK for some work and wonder how I would cope during a whole one! It's not that it's as bad as the UK it's just that the housing is soooooooo cold, they never warm up and it costs a flippin fortune to heat - that is my one gripe until I can afford to build a 10 star energy rated house!

I guess it also depends on why you came to Oz...for us it was a more relaxed lifestyle (ha ha as went self-employed), the beaches, heat, all very shallow stuff :D. We won't stay in Melbourne for ever as we want to experience all of Australia -we'll be trundling around in the Winnebago with the other grey nomads!

I just guess it's what type of person you are - there are plenty of happy people in all of the cities but you just have to find one that is right for you.

Was always going to happen, when there are league games between us they're played on a Sunday before the pubs open.

Been a bad few days for us, with Davenport getting stabbed and Jack Collinson's
dad dying on the way to the game Sunday.

Just heard the Millwall fans were singing to hom about his dad's death and he left the pich in tears.

Still it was nothing compared to the old days, if you look there are only stewards around the pitch and they managed to stop any large scale fighting, in the old days they would have laughed at stewards and had a mass fight on the pitch, i think people are shocked because nothing like this happens anymore in the premiership. I remember when these 2 teams came to Stamford Bridge in the 80s, utter chaos and mayhem, the difference with these teams back then was that the ones causing the trouble were blokes in there 40s and not young lads, all the young casuals at Chelsea had never seen anything like it :D

Chelsea thought they were a bit tasty until West Ham or Millwall came down then everyone went a bit quiet :D

I wish I was there last night, not because of the trouble(although in all truth nothing really happened in the ground). But everyone I've spoke to has said it was the best atmosphere at a game in years, all said they loved it and it was how football should be.

Haha just like the good old days before the prawn sandwich brigade invaded
football, had a lot of fun following Chelsea back in the 80s all over the country, we were shocking back then and spent most of the time in the 2nd division with West Ham,Leeds and Newcastle, of course now i would be shocked by such behavior but back then as an 18 year old it all seemed very exciting.

I can't get excited about possibly moving to Melbourne, I don't know why:huh:

I just see us as a family more suited to the Perth area.

It looks like its Melbourne or nothing though due to husbands trade. Will wait and see how it pans out
