Yep, I know a thing or two about beaches having grown up on them. I love surf beaches (still own a house on a surfing beach), but have to say that the Bay beaches in Melbourne are far closer to what we want now was a family with kids.

The water is calm enough for the kids to swim in happily without major supervision, the sand is fine and golden, there is good fishing all around and sailing is HUGE here with at least 5-6 yacht clubs within a short bike ride. All in all everything you could want from a beach without the 10ft surf. Why is that so bad?

If you're that big a surfer then I doubt you would be wanting to live in a city anyway.

I'll have to get down one day in the summer for a bike ride down the Beach Rd.

We can discuss it at dinner next month.

The Great Ocean Road is a 2-hour drive from the heart of Melbourne with dual lane highway conditions for most of the journey and excellent signposting.

90 mins!!! Bribie is almost a suburb of north brisbane. About 60 mins from CBD.

Gold Coast is 45 mins.

Can be almost in Bryon Bay, NSW in 90mins.

To top it off you can actually swim in them all year round. Got sunburnt this winter swimming over at Stradbroke Island. Freeze your knackers off in Melbourne if you tried that in the middle of winter...sure its a great city but don't get carried away :D

In Queensland becasue of the tropical climate you got those nasty creatures in the water like stingers, Melbounre and Victorias beaches becasue of the cold climate its just as safe as swimming in Uk beaches. Also you almost never hear of any shark attacks compared to the other states.

So that settles it. For beaches, Melbourne pisses over Brisbane.

Now, lets talk about Culture. Or coffee. Or Restaurants. Or humidity.

What do you mean? Starbucks didn't close any of their Brisbane outlets! ;)

People are so competitive about where they stay. Melbourne is cool, I really liked it though just a short visit. I live in Bris and love it. All good

Sure, Brisbane was our first choice before we knew Melbourne. I can see how a happy life could be achieved in Brisbane.

It's just Melbourne gets an unjustified raw deal so often that a defence force is necessary to redress the balance.

I enjoy the climate in Bris but I reckon there is much more to do in Melly. Enough here for me though. Eating out is leagues ahead down there though

Defensiveness is a sign of weakness.

No it isn't it always makes me laugh when people have to defend where they live. It seems to really bother them when others don't like it:confused:
