Yes but what Petals very accurate statement is saying is that you have to add to this time to get to and from the station at each end, time waiting for the train etc.

If you want 30 mins door to door you will have to live somewhere like Carlton or South Yarra, which can be a bit expensive! (and no beach... :( )

I couldn't even get on the train at Windsor the other day it was so busy so that added 10 minutes...then another 10 minutes at Flinders St trying to convince the gate to accept my myki!

Probably could actually....think it takes about an hour-ish to Fed Square.

I tried the commute to Balaclava? from S Melbourne - by the time I dicked around with trams it was about 40mins on this occasion. Sometimes I'm not so fussed about being 45k away - it sort of scales!

basically we live near some wonderful beaches at the moment and dont want to lose that moving to oz. we arent that fussed about living "in the city" and would prefer a little out (been there done that- want a quieter life now!)
so could my OH get into the cbd within say an hour from parkdale ish area??

Definitely. I drive it in 40 mins and train it in about 50 mins door to door.

I used to live in South Caulfield and took the 64 or the 67 tram and it used to take me an hour at least to get to work, door to door and I lived near the tram stop.

Until you actually do the trip yourself to where you are actually going to be working cannot really be that accurate.

Obviously if you work in the CBD the closer you can live the more time you will spend at home.

Western suburbs tend to be closer than the southern suburbs.
